2008 Dakota - ANNOYING Problem
#32
Fix worked. I must admit I was a little skeptical using the accelerator to signify a count for a code change.
Just going by what Chrysler said to another member. You'd think there'd be a lot more complaints if this was the case. Book says 6000 Miles (10,000 KM) for an oil change so let's see what happens then I guess.
Thanks for tracking down the fix dakotarev.

I have a 2008 Dakota and a 2008 Caliber and the change oil messages/chimes come on
around every 3000 miles. 3000,6000,9000,etc.
Change Oil Message
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system. The “Change Oil” message will flash in the instrument cluster odometer for approximately 12 seconds after a single chime has sounded to indicate the next scheduled oil change interval.
The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon your personal driving style.
Unless reset, this message will continue to display each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position.
To turn off the message temporarily, press and release the Trip Odometer button on the instrument
cluster. To reset the oil change indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance)
refer to the following procedure.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.

Did you problem ever get fixed??
Hi, I purchased a 2008 Dodge Dakota SLT in Nov of 2008, the first truck died twice the first night I had it. I call the dealership and they exchanged it for another one. The second truck has been nothing but problems with chimes going off. I first chime was when I would start the truck and there was nothing lighting up on the dash. I took it to the dealer ship and found out it was asking for an oil change but not showing me anywhere. The oil change was actually early too. They changed the cluster like they did in your truck, a few months went by another chime started up again, but this one would come on every few minutes, nothing once again showing on the dash. I took it back to the dealer and the head tech had never seen anything like this before. He hooked it up to his computer and the truck was telling him some option was turned off, my truck does not have this option on it After talking to Dodge engineering they decided to change the PCN (main computer). 3 months later the problem came back, I took it in again after an hour or 2, the head tech the chime was coming on every time the break was being pressed. So they order an ABS component, I got it changes today! The chime is still there, still driving me nuts. Did they ever figure out what was wrong with your truck? My dealership has no clue and now is waiting for engineering to call them back. They have changed 3 things in the truck and wasted my time, I’ve owned the truck for a year and half, it’s a lemon. Another thing the oil change message has never come on EVER!! They haven’t reset the oil change message for 3 oil changes now.
Anyone ever have anything like this happen to them??

I had a 05 Dakota that would do the same thing along with the passenger Airbag light coming on. I would adjust the front passenger seat and it would go away. Now I just purchased an 08 Dakota and I am having the same problem only there is no passenger airbag "off switch" and the airbag light does not come on- but I still get that annoying “ding” after I start the truck. I am wondering if the glitch is from the change in the instrument cluster which controls the airbags? Please let me know if you come up with a solution and I'll do the same.
