Has anyone made their own heat-shield for their DIY CAI?
If anyone has noticed, i have been doing alot of threads in the last couple days. Umm i am about to buy something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BCP-0...#ht_3028wt_990 and i want to make a heat shield for it. I already have an idea on how to do it, but i just want to see if anyone has their own idea. If not, then i will build my own and post pictures.

Yes, I built one for my truck. I dont have any pics. I made it out of flashing like you would use for your home furnace. doubled up. I insulated the inside of the box with thermal insulation like you would wrap a water heater with. riveted it together, and painted it with high temp paint. So far so good. Never really did any temp tests, but it seems to work fine.

If you're gonna go thru the trouble of making the heat shield, make the CAI too. I have a K&N I bought way back in '04 when my truck was about a month old and have made about 15 CAIs out of PVC for other people and I don't see a bit of difference (matter of fact I think the PVC ones perform a tad better than the metal tube ones you buy as the metal holds more heat). $20 in materials (plus filter) and you're home free.
I've made a couple heat shields out of sheet aluminum and a brake, it's not hard. Hell it's harder to find places in the engine bay to secure them.
I've also utilized the stock air box with the top removed for people and that seems to work well too, you have that hole in the bottom that channels air from the tire well right to the cone filter.

I made mine for my 3.7L just like K&N's. I eyeballed the design from the installation sheet from K&N's website, sized up a cardboard template in the engine bay, and cut and bent the steel. I insulated my pipe with that bubble-wrap insulation and painted shield with high heat paint and insulated it with same insulation.
