Question about aftermarket grille inserts

Hi all, ive seen a few members on here with grill inserts on their 3rd gens and my only concern is the hood latch. Ive seen a few on ebay from putco and Its not clear as to whether or not I will be able to access the hood latch. Does anyone have any info on this? I gladly appreciate it and as always, thanks in advance.

Search 'Gutter guard grill' on DF. It looks better than those inserts, and costs $10 at Home Depot. It's the grill that a bunch of us have. Mine has been in for probably two years now and still looks like it's new.

Awesome, I guess ill put those dang expensive craftsman/snap on tools to good use. The only thing I dont like about the DIY grill is the gap for the hood latch bit it seems that is unavoidable.

Don't give up! Become a DF legend! Before you rip everthing apart, look at the problem (location of the hood latch) find a solution (relocation of the hood latch) fab something up and post a write-up (with pictures)!

I have the Figure engineering inserts and they came with a length of coated wire that attaches to the latch and you run down behind the center vertical bar of the grill and loop around the support at the bottom with a bit of slack. When I pop the hood I reach under and snag the wire to pull the latch open. Would be quite easy to DIY, just get the wire and two properly sized crimps for it.
