RUST! Under carpet. (un)Fun project coming up...
2007 SLT bought a month ago...
So after the last 2 days of constant rain, I walked in to a truck full of water on the driver's side. I started trying to figure out where it's coming in from, and STILL have no clue. My guess is somewhere by the window.
Anyway, peeled the carpet back and RUST! Rust all over the driver floor. Not like a hole-thru yet but pretty bad.
I am thinking of pulling the seats out and taking out the carpet and spraying something over it.
What would you suggest I use? Also, best way to get this project started? Seats out first, any tricks to making it easier etc?
Thanks.
Here is the bad rust...

Oh, and by the way, my core support was very badly rusted and I just got done taking care of that. Bumper was taken off, rust fixed and sealed. All the way from bumper cover, over and under radiator and back about another 12 inched on frame...
Here is the result:

That floor rust is minor. Just sand it down and put some automotive primer on or POR15.
Not Be CAREFUL removing for seats, as the Airbag system is tied to them. So unhook your battery for 20+ minutes first, or you will most likely get the Airbag lights and have to get it recalibrate. I tried to find Vinyl Flooring, but it only Available for Quad Cabs D:
For the radiator support, Yours was better then mine. Here what mine looked like.
I had to have a custom one fab'd. Because the OEM one wouldn't fit without removing the Side Supports. Which are spot welded on.
New one I had made

I am in the same boat..my floor is soaked under the mat and definitely has rust building up by now. I do have two wires running through underneath the weather stripping and into the cab on my drivers side so that is my potential culprit. The water could be getting through and draining onto the floor. Other than that I have no clue what it is and it makes me mad. It can cause a bad odor in the cabin too.

I actually also have wires from the fuse box into the cab under the weather stripping. I never thought they could let that much water in... but it IS possible. I have everything pealed back. I will leave a fan with an open door in there for the night and let it all dry out, then start pouring water in different places to see where its coming from. Once I figure out where, I will fix that, then onto taking the seats out and coating over the rust.
Things just keep popping up. I am a semi-freak about keeping my cars/trucks in good shape (im in the car business)... Thank God I bought it cheap enough where I can justify working on these things.

I ran my wires thru a grommet by the Door hinge. No issues with water.
I buy the stuff I use at Canadian Tire. I use Sand Paper or a Wire Wheel and Self-Etch Auto Primer.
I would look closer at where you think the water comes in. I cant see water "Climbing" a cable, if you have it at the bottom of the door. Anywhere else and I can see water coming in, running down inside the stripping and running out the bottom onto the floor

the whole firewall behind the black piece under the pedals that you see in the pictures is wet... i lifted that piece and its soaked underneath. everything close to side by door still has dust on it so nothing there is leaking... its not the wire through the stripping like i thought earlier.
