can't remove cv axle from diff
So I have another post about the oring on the cv axle. Well, I don't know where the oring goes and only one person was partially useful, no offense. Well, I can't remove the cv axle off the output shaft on the diff to even see where the oring goes. How does the output shaft come out? cuz I'm wondering for future uses. The service manual wasn't helpful to me at all. I know on solid axle vehicles that there are c-clips inside the carrier that must be removed. Is that the case for our front diff? cuz, I think the oring was there to protect the splines, but I'm not sure... If I can't remove this cv axle, then I will need to figure out how to remove the cv shaft with the outputshaft in one assembly.. Then I might need a new output shaft so I can put the oring where it should go, EVEN tho I don't know where it goes. I need help, as my truck is still in pieces....
HEre is the link for my previous post, not sure why I'm not getting much help.. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=369524 |
BUmp. Does anybody really not know?

I did not use a slide hammer, I just took a took a crow bar and pried it out from the diff side. There are no c-clips.

You have to apply enough force to snap that ring back over the stub shaft splines to allow the axle to be removed. A big screwdriver or prybar is all you need. Put the prybar between the end of the CV stub and diff housing and force the shaft off the diff stub. |
Well, I can't do it. It won't budge. Not even with large prybars. I'm gonna put all my new suspension parts on and call it good for now. It is parked in my garage and I need it out so I can work on my car (some steering issue). I'm gonna put it all back together and in a couple months ill take the diff out and put it on my bench and hopefully pull it out or ill take the entire housing to a shop. Now, can I drive it without an axle? someone said I couldn't cuz of the wheel bearings, but the hubs are the same from 2wd to 4wd...

You got any pics? I gotta ask, you did remove the other end from the knuckle, right?
|
I have all suspension parts except the strut removed from driverd side. I can't remove it. My old cv had bad boots so I wanted a new shaft while I was rebuilding my suspewnsion. Whole front is supported on jack stands too.

I am using this website on my phone too, so I can't really upload pics. IF You want pics, I can email them or such.

Well I was only kinda wondering that Cuz I eventually plan on dropping the front axle housing and put it in a vice and try to pull the cv axle better, or take the axle to a shop to have them remove it. In that meantime I'd wanna still drive it but someone told me the bearings will go bad if I Do it that way or something but I didn't believe em.
