Default Front Valance Extension

Hey guys, does anybody know how to remove the front air dam (or valance) to get at the additional air intakes (maybe they are for braking)? Not sure of technical name...anyway, I attached an image and circled what I mean in yellow.

Make sense?

I like the look with out them, but perhaps they serve no purpose other than just the coolness factor.

Those cutouts are where the optional tow hooks are placed.

I pulled mine out from the inside. I think there was 1 screw holding each one on.

Is there any functional significance if removed?
