Do you guys wait until the oil change light goes off before changing your oil or do you just change it at 3000 miles.. I am at 3600 miles and my light has not come on. In the past the light has come on right at 3000 + or - 200. @

Does it even have one? My wife's Honda Odyssey has a system that alerts you to change oil based on actual driving habits. It ends up asking for a change between 8000 - 9000 miles (and it assumes conventional oil). I use synthetic in that one to add an extra margin of safety.

On my D I have been just doing the conventional oil change every 3000 miles. Will probably switch a longer duration with synthetic after about 10000 miles. (at about 7000 now)

I would have done synthetic from the first oil change but the techs there told me leave in conventional a few times to aid in break in.

I will do first oil change at 3,000 then the next one at 8,000, after that I will continue to do them every 5,000 mi. I use synthetic. You can reset the message by following the instructions in the manual

3000 miles is too frequent to be doing an oil change in a modern engine w/ a modern multi-weight (even conventional) oil(unless you spend alot of time idling), check the owners manual for a change interval and go with that.

my owners manual calls for 7200 miles between changes, and letting it go that far the oil is still doing its job just fine, i have had oil analysis done to prove this, however for sake of making my life easier (easier to keep track of ) i do oil change at the same time as tire rotations at roughly 5k miles

This will be the third oil change with synthetic and I have put right at 10,000 miles on it in 6 months. I got it used with 12,000 miles on it. My f150 and mustang get the oil changed every 6 months due to low use around (2000 miles) each. So I am not used to going over 3000ish and just wanted your opinion. I think I will do it at 5k if the light doesn't come on before that. Thanks people for the input.

In the 2011+ durangos I thought the oil reminders where set at 8k...at least in the US. You could change the oil as many times as you want, I still can't find the oil filter under the car since the front is so low, I can't get under it.

The manual says 8K, that's what I'm doing- the dealer tried to get me to do them more often, but that's just marketing.

The 2011-2012 models, have a maintenance schedule for 6 months or 13,000km (8,000 miles), whichever is to occur first. The 2013 model, was revised to 12 months or 16,000km (10,000 miles), whichever is to occur first. The new system has a variable metrage algorithm and monitors driving habits, hardware differences and environmental conditions; compared to the previous system that did not adjust the oil drain interval beyond 5,600km.

The maintenance schedule is recommended by Chrysler, and a minmum for warranty purposes. Any service enhancements suggested by an authorized Dodge Dealer will reflect local driving condition distinctions.

Why 6 months, why not just 8k miles. Is it bad to have oil for such a long time in the engine without changing? I ask only because i put only about 8k mile per year.
