Diesel Durango?

Diesel Durango?
Just saw a review on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel. Has anyone heard anything about Durango being available with a Diesel? They claim that you can get 730 miles on a tank on the highway. I do a lot of highway and it is very appealing to me. If the Durango isn't available with the diesel I might think of getting the Grand Cherokee.

on the cherokee its a 5k option.... its just not cost effective... lets unrealistically say you get the 25mpg and 30mpg advertised for the v6/ecodiesel....
100k @ 25mpg= 4000 gallons of gas at $3.50 = $14000/100k
100k @ 30mpg= 3333.33 gallons diesel at $3.75 =$12499.98/100k
Difference = $1500.02/100k mi
Diesel option= $5000.00
-Fuel savings = $1500.02
------------------------------
You save... (drumroll)= -$3499.98 NEGATIVE!!! WTF!!
you need to drive AT LEAST 330k under optimal conditions to start saving... lets say the average driver drives 12k miles a year, it would take them 27 and a half years of ownership to negate the cost of the diesel. don't forget, that 27 plus years of ONLY driving highway at the advertised mpg...
My wife and I drive a combines 9k a year.. we have 3 cars but if we were to unrealistically share the ecodiesel it would take us nearly 37 years to justify the cost.
Now lets say you bought the v6 and took that $5000 and put in a savings acccount bearing .84% interest (ally bank) after 30 years you would have more than $6400.00
I wanted the ecodiesel as well until I did the grim math...
100k @ 25mpg= 4000 gallons of gas at $3.50 = $14000/100k

this is more like saving money in the present time the gas/diesel and filling up less. And diesel was the only thing that was available during Hurricane Sandy here in NY/NJ. So thats what is really pushing me towards it.
I drive on average 17k a year (dont ask i have no idea where i go lol)
im glad you did the math because i wouldnt have lol

The only positive to diesel in a Jeep (or Durango) I would think is if the owner hauls a boat, trailer or some such around on a regular basis. With that stuff you need some grunt, especially in hilly terrain, and the diesel could be a real plus under those condidtions.
