Can't Erase Change Oil Indicator
 

I had my oil changed a few weeks ago before my indicator came on. Now that it's on, I've tried the brake reset many times and it still wont reset. Any ideas other than taking it to the dealer?


It's under warranty still but I want to know why the reset isn't working. I'm following the instructions.

Are you using the break pedal or the accelerator? You're supposed to press and release the *gas* pedal 3 times in a few seconds with the key on to reset it... I've done this and it works for me...

Wow, I'm a moron! I must have read those instructions (obviously poorly) 5 times and I always thought I read brake. I'll try the gas and expect it will work.

No no no...the proper way to do it is to first put your foot on the brake, then turn the key to the on position(you will hear the engine start), then put the drive selector in "d", then release the brake pedal and push the gas pedal to the floor an hold it for 3 seconds. Repeat 3 times, making sure to keep your eyes focused only on the dash so you will see when the message clears. That should clear that oil change indicator right up for you :)

You must be wearing a foil helmet for this to work....

Dodge's system for this is weak. There ought to be a "remaining oil life" display that we could access through the EVIC. My dealership only successfully resets the oil life thing about half the time. Irritating to get that warning 2,000 miles after an oil change. I mean, I do know how to reset it thanks to you guys, but I shouldn't have to.

The other interesting point is that with our honda, the dealer believes in the "Maintenance minder" system and assures customers that they should use it. Russ Darrow Dodge where I bought mine didn't even mention that the system existed in the D, and said we should just come in every 3,000 miles.
