WTB: (Hypertech Interceptor) & new owner of a 2011 Durango Crew 5.7L
hey guys, just bought a used 2011 Durango so I joined the forum this week. the car before my last one was a 2001 Intrepid R/T with the 3.5L which I drove for many years and happily modded the whole time. so I love forums like these and the drivers that post on them. and my last 5 vehicles have been Dodge/Chrysler.
I'll be posting pics and threads as I get into the Durango. for now I'm mostly reading the older threads to see what I need to know about these 3rd Gen Durangos.
I do WTB (Want To Buy) a HyperTech Interceptor and a CAI. I'm posting that here because the Classifieds section says I need 25 posts before I can post a Classified for either FS or WTB. I saw a Hypertech listed in Classifieds but the throttle adapter was left in the truck when traded in so I'm looking for the complete set.
also, I'm looking for suggestions on what are the better CAI's. the Volant looks goood to me but I'm more used to K&N products. so any first hand opinions are welcome.
great to be here. can't wait to begin modding my Durango.

Welcome and congrats!
i sent you a PM about the HT
RE: CAI - I ended up going with the Volant CAI. the main reason was the dry filter and price. it's not the "prettiest" but i think there is a slight sound improvement. MPG has been negligible

Fullslp,
so what exactly does the different thermostat do in the HEMI's in the Durango? I'm familiar with running hotter thermostats. I ran a custom thermostat in my '01 Intrepid R/T that let the 3.5L engine run just a little bit warmer for better efficiency. that Intrepid R/T had a very beefy cooling system, if fact it would take it forever to warm up seemingly on cold mornings.
I'm sure the Durangos have pretty beefy cooling systems as well. and mine has the Towing package to boot.

Long drawn out story but the main point is that running the engine a little bit cooler will increase the probability that the pcm will choose a more powerful fuel and timing map. In totally stock applications it will really only helps when towing in my experience when your pulling a huge grade and engine temps start to spike the pcm pulls timing and dumps fuel in an effort to control Cyl burn and thwart detonation. This in turn kills your power right when you need it the most. I seem to have a superior experience compared with other intake, Hypertech owners in that mine has not lost one bit of punch. This very well may be due to the thermostat always keeping me in the prime fuel/ timing trim and not giving my system a chance to "out learn" the hypertech. " theory" Im not just babbling as I have and continue to tune GM vehicles just not willing to put the time and money into tuning the Durango. At least not yet.
