For Dodge Cares - Oil Change Interval
 

2013 R/T. I recently had my oil changed at my local dealer. Service rep said that Dodge was now using a synthetic blend that cost more but would last longer. He encouraged me to buy a 4 oil change package which is good for 2 years. Here's my question. I have a Mopar extended warranty. What impact would there be if I stretched out the oil change interval from 5,000 miles to 10,000? If I can't stretch it out because it would affect the warranty, what's the point of selling me more expensive oil? If I can stretch it out, what documentation is there that I can rely on to back me up? Thanks.

Could just be a dealer trying to screw you by pitching something you don't need (gasp!). If you have your policy that info might be in there..

Per the owners manual, wait for the oil change indicator light but under no circumstances exceed 10,000 miles or 12 months. That is the manufacturers recommendation for maintain your vehicle and if you follow that, you will in no way impact the warranty. Dealers will always try to upsell. Synthetic blend is a marketing scheme. Don't use it. You never know what the "blend" is. Maybe 5% synthetic and 95% conventional.


The manual recommends only 5W-20 that is API certified and meets Chryslers material standard MS-6395. As long as you use approved oil and adhere to the maintenance schedule located in your owners manual, you are golden as far as the warranty is concerned.

jkeaton summed it up in the post above. If you follow the instructions outlined in your owner's manual regarding the maintenance schedule, you should keep your warranty intact. We have many different service packages, which are great to have and do save money, but again, I would recommend following the oil change interval and oil recommendations in your owner's manual!
