Water in Rear Brake Light
1 Attachment(s)
So came out this morning to open my rear hatch on 2015 DD R/T and lo and behold I see a large amount of water inside the channel. So I figure I'll do a search and BAM seems like a known problem with DD (posted on this website and
DODGEPROBLEMS: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/...lighting.shtml Can anyone give me their thoughts regarding whether this can be fixed by Dodge? Anyone have this issue and received a permanent fix? I love my DD, but this is ridiculous. I now have grinding brakes this morning as well. I have been complaining about squeals at low speeds, but Dodge refuses to fix this issue even though there is a TSB for this issue - now my brakes are grinding. The car was recently safety checked so the brakes shouldn't have worn out that quickly. |
So I call Dodge Dealer - they immediately say your vehicle is out of warranty so I have to pay for a fix. I remind them that I purchased the vehicle under CPO that should extend up till 39,000 miles. He then said that exterior trim pieces may not be covered. I then said would it be covered in the expensive MAX Care warranty I purchased. He said I'll call you back. Seems like a dodge from Dodge.
From the links above and from this Forum seems like a known problem. Seems like a safety problem as well - no brake lights! |
Mine got water in there too, also a section of LED in the taillight mounted section failed. Dealer replaced it no charge around 35,000 miles. I do recall that would have been an absurdly expense part if i had to pay out of pocket.

I'm taking my DD in next Tuesday. The Service Guy stated that I would be on a long waiting list for replacements. I just want to log the problem now before warranty ends. Fix the Frackin Problem Fiat/Dodge and save everyone time, and safe you guys money! This is similar to the water pump failure I just had - long waiting list for a replacement - so it's a known issue. Fix and and move on. I'm having the blue smoke issue - brought it up my Dealer multiple times - they refuse to do anything since they cannot replicate - rinse and repeat. I realize acknowledging issues can be costly, but the inevitable backlash is also devastating: Ford Explorer Flip Overs, Toyota car lurching while stopped, VW diesel fiasco, Jeep rolling while in Park (Star Trek Actor killed). |

Hello everyone. Have the same issue with my Rear Brack Light and water entering the plastic shroud. This time LEDs lights have burned out. This is the second time since I owned the vehicle. First time I paid $100 deductible to have it replaced. I just scheduled a service appointment to get this addressed. Fortunately the Service person stated it would be covered under warranty.
I still would like to know if this is a Service Bulletin, or even a safety recall since this would fail inspection and maybe cause an accident if lights fail. Now the complaints are up to 95 individual at: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/...lighting.shtml DodgeCares I will send you a direct email. If you read this (as you have done in the past) can you recommend a course of action? I am getting it replaced for free (after paying $100), but this should be an ongoing warranty repair for life of vehicle. Thanks Jerry |

Hello DodgeCares,
I sent you a private email, but have not heard anything back. I am very peeved regarding this issue. I had to pay another $100 deductible to fix what clearly is a safety and design flaw on FCA-Dodge's part. I feel that this shouldn't have to be paid by me for my dealership to fix every 2 years! I would argue this is a safety issue (brake lights burning out) that a safety recall and TSB fix should be issued ASAP. There 127 complaints regarding this issue on Carcomplaints.com. Please can you comment on any thoughts regarding this issue???? I would like FCA-Dodge refund me my $200 out of pocket expenses, and guarantee free fixes in the future. Jerry |
I think DodgeCares has left the building. Usually responds to my issues. Both Private and Public pleas have gone unanswered. #sadface.

This is a very common issue and should have been fixed a long time ago . You can drain it by pulling the lower bolt on each side of the channel if it hasnt burned out a section yet . Some guys try to seal them or some just leave the two lower bolts out . Some guys drill a small hole down by those bolts to get the water out . A great looking feature poorly implemented by FCA . I have an extended warranty till 100K so hopefully it will happen before then if it happens . The cheapest I have seen them is about $650 without labor to install .
if they cant make them dependable then go back to a incandescent bulb that is "easy" to change . |
