What's wrong with a $5.97 Oil Filter

I mean it's only a 5.7 liter Hemi Engine! Why not go to Walmart and get a Chrysler 090 a.k.a. 05281090??? I got one. I got 7 quarts of Mobil One and a Mobil One Oil Filter for $27.95 oil, $14.95 filter total $$45.90 incl tax.... So, I see this Chrysler 090 filter and I figure $5.97 plus tax I save $10.00. I mean I just went through hell getting the dealer to get the "tick" out of my engine $3500.00 under warranty $100/deduct and a pee pee match with Chrysler. So, why not??? $5.97 Walmart oil filter.
I have to admit I was afraid to put this filter on the truck. What with that low price filter and I wonder is it really a Chrysler Oil filter?? Well, I climb under the 07 Ram 4X4 and what do I see???? The dealer filter is on the truck since the repairs 5,000 miles ago. What is the number on the dealer filter???? Yeah, that's right! The old $5.97 Walmart Chrysler 05281090 oil filter. Identical right down to the 05281090 numbers. Gee, all this time I wasted my money on Wix, Mobil One, oil filters. No doubt about it price is no object on a hemi engine:icon_mrgreen:

Well yeah, we all know that the US manufactures spare no cost on building the best vehicles money can buy, they would never use a sub standard part to save a couple of cents. ;)

Paper media versus Synthetic media which increase filtration and flow.
Mopar is paper fiber media and filters like PureOne, Mobil1, K&N are Synthetic fiber media. Most big brands are re-branded. I try to get the PureOne anytime I can as I believe they are the best dollar for dollar out there and one of the best filters to boot. I'd certainly use a Mopar filter
HERE is an excellent write-up of comparisons and reviews of oil filters. One of the better one's I have come across.

Thanks for the oil filter link.

Ditto M&B

That Oil Filter link is great, but I haven't really ID'd the Chrysler 090 to see who makes it. Chrysler OEM ?? Interesting the dealer is telling me to dump the Mobil One every 3k miles, I disagree, and that paper with synthetic Oil I wonder if it can collapse the filter. Heck I buy my Oil at Walmart for the best priced Mobil One. The filter I just stumbled on and found it to be very inexpensive, but if it works, well who's to argue.

All Chrysler filters are manufactured by Champion Labs.

I go with the STP Filters from Walmart.

Paper endcaps, leaf as opposed to an actual spring, rubber anti-drainback valve which can dry out and crack. I rank the materials right there with a Fram. STP is STP in name only anymore, it's not your father's STP!!!
No thanks...

I'll still stick to a Wix (Napa Gold)... My cherces are still Wix, Purolator Pure One, K&N and Mobil 1 in that order...

5min North in Watervliet.

I buy all my oil at Advance Auto when they do their oil change specials. The lastest price for 5qts mobil 1 and a filter was $29.99 and then you buy 2 additional qts at a discounted price. usually runs $39 or so.
I also pick up Valvoline Synthetic with PureOne filters for $24.99 and again with the 2 additional qts, cost is right about $35
