in ur opinion what tire and rim combo to do...
 

SO my 08 need tires soon. and the factory chrome 20s are starting to surface rust and peeling off (chrome plated plastic dumb in my opinion)

So im looking at new 20s thinking incubus 815 krawlers

Now my truck is a 08 ram 1500 laramie which sits level on 33s and is as tall as my buddys 08 ram 1500 SLT Which has 35s and a leveling kit but mine has no level kit

13.5 is a very wide tire. It would look sweet, but likely be noticeably louder than a 12.5" as time goes on plus you would have to get severe backspaced rims, or do a rim/spacer combo?

37's are just too big for an IFS truck regardless of your lift. The suspension and linkage/steering aren't meant for them. Above 35's and the tires get pretty heavy so you'd want to upgrade shocks..etc Plus 37's would rub no matter what, ESPECIALLY the wider tire you go no matter what backspaced wheels you get.

You wanna do 37s or go 13.5" wide then raise the '99 1500 up more for it. You'll be replacing a CV before you know it on the '08, especially with heavy a$$ 20" wheels.

The Dana 44 ain't exactly the strongest front axle in the world, but it's infinitely stronger than those spindly CVs (which are even thinner on the coil over front 1500s than on the torsion front ones). PLUS those CVs absolutely HATE running at high angles...

well after thinking it over im not going to do 37s, they will require to much lift, and wear and tear wouldnt be worth it.


But i am not sure if i want 13.5 wide tires or 12.5 wide tires. I do want the tire to stick out some since i just ordered bushwacker pocket style fender flares and they are 2.5 inches wide

what kind of backspacing do u think i would need for a 13.5 wide tire i know 12.5 wide should be around 4.5-5.5 according to your sticky

I also just ordered a 2.5 inch strut extension and rear block kit
New rear shocks and new front struts
so height shouldnt be a problem at all.

to run 37's you need at least a 6" lift. but even with that there will not be that much room for articulation. But as for running 37's on these trucks i will have to disagree with dirtydog. There is nothing wrong with running them the ifs can handle it. hell it can handlle 40's with the proper lift. but that being siad it will wear down the suspension componets down quicker. but you gotta pay to play. i know that 37's and bigger will wear down everything quicker but i am willing to fix/ugrade when that happens.

Yes, you can run 37s and even 40s, meaning the truck will go from point A to point B, but I have to disagree, the IFS won't "handle it". It's inevitable that at some point the front end will fail, unless you are just using the truck to cruise the junior highs to impress the 15 year old chicks.

I've pulled more than one truck running 37s and larger out of the woods or been on my hunting clubs lease watching them get pulled to where they can be loaded on the flatbed. I've only seen one truck snap a CV that wasn't running 37s or larger and it was running 35s and was a Chevy 4x4 which have a thinner CV then we do.

I mean you wanna run 'em fine. As long as you understand that at some point you're gonna either have to change a CV in the field yourself or pay to have the thing hauled off and have it changed. Also know full well that hub, ball joints, tie rod ends and other components will be prone to wear/fail much sooner.

Reefguy, it obviously sounds like you know the risks and are willing to deal with them when they come up - which is fine, after all, it's your truck. But most of these guys have no clue what can and probably will happen if they spend all that money for that much lift/tires/wheels/etc. and I can't speak for others, but I just want to make them aware of the limitations. From there, it's obviously up to them...

If i was you I would try to get a smaller wheel too. I didnt have the funds at the time but when my current set of tires wear down and its time for new ones I'm definitely going to 17s. 20 inch wheels are too expensive when trying to buy tires for them
