how much power loss with 285/75r17 toyo MT's on a 2500?
For anyone running the toyo MT's in 285/75r17 on the hemi 2500 with 3.73, how are they power wise?
I have Nitto grappler HT's in 285/70 on now, and it's livable with a SC tuner, but moving the the 285/75 toyo mt might be enough to push it over the edge to where I won't like it. I don't tow much, and when I do, usually about 1,000 pounds, but do a fair amount of off road (not hard core...fire roads, etc.). Anyone running these tires have some feedback? |
If all else fails and you dont like it, regear it ;)
But seriously, I dont think you are going to THAT much of a difference |
i got 285/75 17s on my 1500 and i honestly dont notice a difference over stock besides noise

But seriously, I dont think you are going to THAT much of a difference The 285/70's are JUST livable to me, and if I did not have the SC Tuner, I already know I would not want to run the bigger 285/75 toyo mt's (It would just piss me off due to lack of power on the bottom end). I'll put the tires on and see how it goes from there. |
If you've got 4.56s and are not happy with the low end then your only real solution is a CTD - now if you aren't happy with the low end torque out of that - God help you...
The Hemi IMO just isn't a good truck engine - at least not a QC, 4x4 or 2500 engine. Yeah it makes GREAT power, but it does so in the mid-upper RPM range. You can make changes to it that will move that power band down quite a bit - but they are internal changes (Cam, heads, etc.) and aren't cheap... |
Well you're only going a little taller with the change so you won't notice much of a difference if any at all unless your a human dyno machine. I pretty much did the same thing you did when I lifted my truck (only went taller not wider) and I didn't notice a difference until I got my SuperChips and then I did notice quite a good difference lol.

There are some sensitive butt dynoers out there that you would be surprised lol.

I have 35" on my truck, its is barely livable. I really need to ditch the 3.73's and get those 4.56's. 70 to 75 it be fine. Your always gonna have to give up something when you go to a bigger tire.

I totally agree with your views on the 5.7 for a 3/4 ton truck engine though. Awesome engine for a charger, etc. but when I first got this truck, I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed as far as the low end grunt goes. I really want a power wagon...i also think I'd really like a CTD...I don't think I'd like the sticker price of a powerwagon with a CTD...although god knows I'd want one...lol The old ford 300 I-6 and the Jeep 4.0 I-6 now those were good ol tough engines that had grunt...a LOT of grunt for 6 cylinders... |
Oh hell then you REALLY want to re-gear to 4.56s - night and day difference. Best mod I've done to date by far.
BTW, I've owned one Ford 300 I6 ('84 F150) and four Jeep 4.0 I6s (two Wranglers, two Grand Cherokees. Easiest engines on the planet to work on... |
