New AC Compressor Clutch Not Engaging

Hi all, newbie to forum.

I need help,

I don't know what else I can check, unless I am missing something. I down loaded the wiring drawings

for the 9 connector TIPM for my 2006 5.9l Diesel to aid in troubleshooting the problem. Looked at fourums for possible solutions and couldn't find a match to my failure.

Installed new Fan Clutch and new AC compressor. System static pressure 90psi, AC clutch won't engage. Jumpered Compressor Plug with 12v and Clutch pulled in.

Believe I had an over current condition when compressor failed due to the Fan Clutch failure. TIPM output current to compressor is isolated.

New Clutch coil resistance is 3.4 ohms.

AC Button ON (Light On)

Fan Blower ON

Engine Running

Clamp-On DC Current Across AC Connector Plug Conductor 0 Amps.

My research tells me TIPM Output current to AC Clutch should be about 2 - 3.9amps.

I measured 11vdc across open connector pins only to discover that this is Ghost voltage and means nothing.

I don't have a scan tool that can turn devices On/Off.

I just have a scan tool reader and no codes came up?

I thought the failure would have dropped a code?

This is my first Diesel and a novice at best, I do have a strong electrical background and can fix almost anything.

All other electrical components are working, with no issues.

Can the dealer flash the TIPM and reset the current input to the AC Clutch?

If not, is a rebuilt TIPM a viable option versus new?

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Does your system use R134a? If so, 90PSI static pressure seems a bit high........

Yes it’s R134A,
The 90psi is a static reading. I wasn’t able to finish the job due to no current input to compressor.
I dropped the truck off at the dealer to see if the TIPM could be reset. It couldn’t be reset, it was fried for the AC input section on the board.

Dealer said the TIPM is on Back order.

The Dodge Tech wast able to finish recharging my AC system by manually powering up the compressor. I didn’t know you could charge the AC system manually.

I saw that Summit Racing Equipment ONLINE sells a Dorman P/N 599-924 remanufactured TIPM for my 06 Cummins Diesel and its in stock.

Dodge Service manager said Dorman TIPM would be a good alternate replacement.

Does anyone recommend another manufacturer for TIPM replacement?

I pulled my 04 1500 apart and fixed the parking light circuit, maybe you could fix yours if you have basic electronics skills.... you could also find the mopar part number and see if one of the non-dealer warehouses has any new ones in stock.

Here is that thread with a link to a decent video on pulling it apart to get at the board.
