6 x 9 speakers won't fit.... solutions?
I have a pair of 6 x 9 Infinity Kappa Series, and when I tried this morning to install them into my 2007 Quad Cab, I ran into a problem: The basket of the speakers are too large for the opening. Has anyone else ran across this problem? Possibly have a solution that doesn't involve modifications (or at least major mods?)
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Where were you trying to put 6x9's? As far as I know all the speakers are round (unless they changed that in the 06-07 too).

no there are 6x9's in the front doors, just the plastic grill molding on the door is round, kind of deceiving (sp?)

try making a 1/4 inch spacer out of MDF, or once I used silicone and ran a fat bead along the back of the speaker, I let it dry overnight and it provided me one of the best vibration proof spacers ever...now I use it on every speaker I put in.

Thanks for the speedy responses.
Damquick, Did the 1/4 in spacer push your speaker too close to the door panel? I'll give it a try. I'm trying as hard as possible to refrain from cutting the panels... |

didn't do my dodge yet so I don't know...measure,measure,measure is all I can say.

Yeah, I'll have to give it a shot then. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll take a few pics as well.
Thanks :) |
RE: 6 x 9 speakers won't fit.... solutions?
Alright, so it turns out that without either modifiying the door, door panel, or speaker, the Infinity Kappa Series 692.5i will not fit in a 2007 quad-cab. But I have determined that there is (roughly) an Inch and a Half of clearance between the metal that holds the speaker and the back of the door panel.
Most speaker companies make "shallow-speakers" which were meant to fit in these spaces. In my opinion, if there is a good solution to this, I'd suggest going for the better (full sized) speakers. |
RE: 6 x 9 speakers won't fit.... solutions?
Break out the cut off wheel... not as scarry as it might appear to be... if you are looking for some extra clearance, stensil out the mounting points and the size of the speaker from the rear (to get the right size hole for it to mount into and still have enough metal left to attach the speaker), copy the stensil onto the door, double check your work, and cut away. You probably wouldn't be taking much off, and if it looks like crap, who cares, your putting your door pannel right back on.

RE: 6 x 9 speakers won't fit.... solutions?
Were talking depth here not circumference, Medic,....you'd have to have 1 inch spacers...no way the door panel will go back on, only other option is shallow speakers...let me know what you find, I'm thinking of upgrading as well.
