2003 Ram 1500 Quad cab mileage help
Hi! New to the forums, thought I would try to get help here.
The Skinny:
Got a 2003 Dodge ( Duh ) 1500 Quad cab ( 4.7 motor )
It does have the factory 20" rims.
Now.. I am getting s**t for mileage... I am wondering what can be done. I am not a heavy foot driver... I stay off the gas. But my mileage stinks.
I have been told that a Air intake, Thorttle body, and Cat back will help... but is this true? What is some advice you can give me? ( Besides getting rid of the rims and tires. )
Thanks!

What type of mileage are you getting? I have a 2004 QC, 4.7L with 20s and about 2000 miles on it. I only drive in traffic in the city and am averaging 14.9 mpg.
Also, I have a CAI on order that should be installed in two weeks and am looking at a Flowmaster 70 catback.

Well, my drive is to work and back, on a road thats about 12 miles long and 55 most of the way.. some spots 65. I do the normal drive around town. I just got the truck, and have 1 full tank in. looking now about 12.9, 1st tank with lots of highway was about 14.2.
What is a CAI?
Thanks!

CAI - Cold Air Induction (Airram) and a catback exhaust. I spin my back tires occassionally and am still averaging 14.4 - 14.9 with no highway driving. Live in Dallas and hit the Tollway at morning and evening rush hour.
The CAI could increase MPG as much as 3 - 4 depending on how you drive it. My understanding is that because there is an increase in hp and torque, the tendency is to heavy foot it (thereby not helping the gas mileage).
I did drive to Wichita Falls the second week I had mine and averaged about 19.9 mpg going about 70, tailgate down and three road bikes mounted in the bed.
Not too shabby...

I have about a ~35 mile roundtrip to work everyday. It is mostly highway mixed in with a little city driving. It's probably close to 70/30 and when I checked it on my last trip, it said 15.7. The only performance mod I have is a replacement muffler, and I really don't think that helped at all.
