Anyone else swap to Full Synthetic?

So I did my first, and slightly early, oil change today, at 1800 miles.

I decided to change to full synthetic, since I've had great success with synthetic oils in the past. They take longer to brake down, exhibit greater lubricity, and help engine performance and mileage.

On one of my previous cars, a 2002 Honda Civic SI, the change to synthetic netted me a3 mpg highway increase.

We'll see what it does for this 4.7 beast. On a nice, flat freeway, I've been getting 22-24 mpg. Hopefully with synthetic I can get up to 25 or 26. And a couple more horses wouldn't suck. =)

Is that milage what you're reading on the overhead display, or accurately figured out by dividing actual miles since last fill-up by gallons used? I say that as 22-24 mpg out of a Ram with a 4.7L sounds hard to believe. If it is true, you have NOTHING to complain about!

I'm averaging about 15.5-16.0 city/highway and 18.0-18.5 highway-only.

Is the truck new? With a new truck (or any vehicle for that matter) you want to do an early oil change after 1k miles. Helps remove the initial break in debree that comes with a new motor. When its time with mine, she is going full synthetic. The only way to go. lol

Well I did the full syn oil change and actually lost MPG, I was averaging 17-19 in town and 23-25 hwy...until the full synthetic Mobil, now my MPG has dropped to 14 in town and 21 on the hwy. I'm going to give it another three months when I'll hit the 35oo miles on it and make a determination then...it may just be the summer heat causing the difference.

You have NOTHING to complain about either!

I have the '06 Ram MegaCab 4x4 1500 w/ 5.7 HEMI, and I am lucky to get 12mpg. I get 8-12mpg!

Damquick, you haven't reached the break in mileage yet. After I switched to Syn, I did have a drop in mileage for about 2 tanks. Then everything ran fine and mileage got better. I got 18-19 mpg on a road trip with the cruise set at 75 mph. My city miles now is around 14-15 if I don't get on it to much.

Full synthetics are great. Don't expect a noticable increase in gas mileage. The measurement error is too great to attribute any gains or losses to sythetic oils.

Yeah.....but YOU have a HEMI!

Regardless, anyone that buys a full-size truck shouldn't biatch too much about mileage. We didn't get a Prius!
