06 3.7L performance

Hey everyone. First time posting, but been reading for a long time. I have an 06 ram 1500 SXT auto, loaded except for the wonderfully underpowered v6. After towing a trailer fromVA to MO, and witnessing the poor performance,I decided to look into trading up for a v8 or buying some performance parts. I need some advise. Does anyone have a line on a list of performance parts and makers to increase hp and torque? I have done some research already and come up with the below list:

ASPunderdrive pulley
Liberty intake
Fastman throttle body
throttle body spacer
k&n drop in

Thanks!

youd probably be better trading up, and then gettin the performance parts. there isnt a huge aftermarket for the v6, but if you really wanted to upgrade it you could start with intake and exhaust. after that, you could try a chip, or computer flash. but theres really not whole much more. except for the TBspacer or maybe an electric fan or something.

RE: 06 3.7L performance

tb spacers from what ive heard are an expansive paper weight and not worth much more and i tend to agree. Chip, exhaust, intake, fans, pullys may work. Maybe a nos system. not sure if a supercharger is an option, i havent look honestly. Hope you can find what works for you, but you may be better off trading for atleast an 08 4.7L m8.

Trade it in I looked in to hopping up the moter dont bother it will be cheeper and less of a nightmare just to trade it in.

I waiting to pay my off before I get rid of mine I also have a 06 3.7 I dont wait to bury my upside down payments what I owe on this truck on a New one I just wait besides with any luck by the time I am ready to trade it in they will have the big discounts once again and life time warrenety Plus they should of figured out how to get better MPG out of the Hemi and they will have the new body style out by then.

It sad when the 4.7 and the Hemi get the same or better HWY MPG than our under powered V-6 If I knew this when I got this truck I would of gotten a Hemi instead.

I been looking at the 2500 megacab 4X4 but it cost $10.000 more than the 1500 Mega I mite stay with the 1500 I dont haul real heavy stuff any more besides we still have our 2001 Super cab 2500 V-10 Dodge 4X2 sitting in the back yard if I need to haul anythingheavy But this truck Sucks the gas.

Oh yea they stop making the SRT 10 Trucks dont know why but I guess I lost out of that truck.

I think those parts are a step in the right direction (nix the spacer), if you choose to keep the truck. Any engine regardless of size, is still an airpump. I'd suggest getting an electric radiator fan (Dodge Nitros have one factory). I also suggest looking at the Nitro, Dakota forums for tips.

Performance parts will help some but probably not a lot. However the resell value with our v6's isn't very good so I would go with adding the performance parts. I thought about trading up too but I would get killed on trade in and basically lose the 4 grand I put down on the truck. So instead of losing 4 grandI might as well put 500-700intoit and drive it for awhile.Has anyone tried to trade your v6 recently? If so what did they offer you?

I did probably about 2 months ago and got offered $8500. Not bad, except that I owed $9000 on it at the time :) Decided to have patience and not get rid of it till it decides to break itself or start acting stupid. So far, no problems.

The best thing you can do is know what your truck is worth via KBB and NADA.

RE: 06 3.7L performance

Yeah thats not too bad. I thinkt he problem is that since dodge had such good rebates you could get a 07 v6 for 12k. I paid 14 for my 06 and only have 8k miles on it. There not going to give me what they were selling new ones for so they would try 10k probably. I sold cars for awhile and we would use NADA to trade and KBB to sell since KBB has higher values. They would basically look up the price NADA if it was worth 11k then the managerswould say start them at 9k. If the people were stupid which often they weretheywould just agree to the 9k, we would make good money.

RE: 06 3.7L performance

Yeah, the dealership that I work at uses KBB on both ends, trading and selling, so I know the ins and outs. And I get treated well when it comes to buying vehicles here. I got my 2003 a little over a year ago for just over $9k and no money down (and 34k miles on it) and they had $12k on the tag on the lot. The more you know, and the more that you demonstrate that you know, the better they should treat you, and if they don't....take it somewhere else :)

i'd agree. just trade it in....the v6 is really only meant to be the "work truck", meant pretty much to do everyday things....not really much towing. Still, I like my v6.

Just purchased my 2006 Ram 1500 4X2 Q-cab 3.7l a couple of months ago. Its basically an around town and to-from work truck. Don't haul a lot but I do drive some roads that have long continuous inclines and i really hate watching the speed drop and the engine jump to 5k rpm. This is my only regret so far with the 3.7l. Looking into the jet chip stage 1....

What gears does your truck have? Seems like a lot have the 3.21's which are way to high for the v6. I have the 3.55's with a regular cab and they are decent but once I got my 20's I wish I had 3.96's. Check out the powerwire too I have it and it's probably the best mod for the money except for maybe the liberty intake which I don't have so I'm not sure. There is a lot of info about all this stuff if you look around in here.

Is the guy who does the Powerwire back from Iraq? I was ready to buy one and it was out of stock.

Yes, when I first looked he was out too but started selling them again soon after.

RE: 06 3.7L performance

To be honest I don't know exactly what my gear is. Purchased the truck "used" from a dealership but it only had 21k miles on it.... so i basically considered it a new truck. I will check the paperwork and see what gears it has.

8500?? wow. i was hoping for around 10 to 12 thousand. Do you know if mods such as intake and exhaust, would raise or lower the trade in value?

Well, is yours an 03 or is it a newer year? Newer models are generally worth more, so yours might be worth around 10k. Mods...depends on the dealer. Our dealership doesn't pay much attention to mods at all, so they mean beans in terms of trading in here. If they were a specialty sport truck dealer or something, they might actually put some consideration into them, but they're not going to give you much anyway if they can't turn around and sell it for a few thousand (at least) in profit.

And like bchap said earlier, because you can get brand spanking new ones so cheap now, it hurts the trade value for those of us with older models. That and the fact that not many people want a full size truck with a V6 in it :D

Yes, he is back. You are looking for AIRRAM. Check out airram.com. He has some 3.7L stuff. Additionally, the SCT tuner is now available for 3.7Ls...
An easy (somewhat) way to gain performance is to put your truck on a diet! Dodge trucks are heavy...

Where and/or how do you get new gears? Because frankly im really tired of my stock gears revving the engine so high....

For gears, AIRRAM carries some, as do JEGS and Moe's performance. I think they all carry limited slip diffs also...
