A Different CAI!

RE: A Different CAI!
Yeah, I was just reading EVERYTHING I could about CAI's, trying to justify the $300 cost of one, came across this picture. I've almost decided I want to do this in the future, I went ahead and bought 1/2 of it, as I decided against the True Flow for a cheap eBay one with a K&N filter. I actually would've had a True Flow had the place that I placed the order from not had them on BackOrder. I don't really regret my decision after all the reading I went through. No offense to you guys with the "Name Brand" intakes, but performance wise I don't think there's going to be that much difference b/t Brand X and Brand Y of intakes. Especially since this will be my last engine mod that I personally do. Maybe you guys will flame me, and maybe you won't, but I'll find out if I wasted my money in due time. My el Cheapo comes in Wednesday, I'll be sure to give you my report, but again, the above picture is planned to be in my truck in the near future as well, just gotta figure out everything else I need to order...

RE: A Different CAI!
Hummers were the rage for looks in the 1990s.
Movies stars bought Hummers for the "cool" looks
and thought driving them made them 'tougher' than common folk.
The insurgents in 2003 also looked at the Hummers in Iraq.
They carefully evaluated them...not for looks.
Now 40% of the US deaths in Iraq have come from roadside bombs that went off beside Hummers....1700 brave fellow citizens in coffins.
We now realize that the Hummers is as poorly designed a piece of military equipment as the Sherman Tank was in World War II. The Sherman tank was so bad that it got the name 'Ronson' after the cigarette lighter that always went aflame with one hit.
Did anyone not concentrate on looks?
Yes in Rhodesia
where most of the jobs were either mining or farming
they fought a war against rebels using roadside bombs.
Mining engineers back in 1979
re-designed a truck into a
'Mine Resistant Ambush Protected'
vehicle that worked even it it did not look 'cool.'
Keep on paying attention to how things look
instead of how thinks work
and you will end up dead or a slave
and your children will not grow up
with the protection of the US Constitution
and what opinion you express on an Internet forum like this one,
may send you to prison.
The IAT and MAP sensors will tell you if an air intake mod works or not.

RE: A Different CAI!
i had a cheap ebay intake and hated it... the ait sensor didnt want to stay in because teh ebay intake was just a a hole with a rubebr grommit. it was really loud. i got the volant intake ( got it on sale last week for $225, now its back up over $300) and i like the plastic tubing instead of the chrome... you can find that dual intake peice on ebay for dirt cheap and then buy two ebay intake kits. can probably do it for under $100.... just buy new filters ( the one i got said it was a k&n but when i got it theres no that was a k&n...
you could really confuse a shop for a second with that setup lol...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dual-...spagenameZWDVWthats the twin intke setup
then just buy another one of the ebay intakes you already just boughtand put it all together....
i would wrap it in that heat wrap ( like that airram intakes) and i bet it would look pretty nice and would probably do something over stock....

Often I appreciate your technical input, but sometimes you say some off the wall sh**.... What you said is that my affinity for cosmetic details is going to corrupt the United States Constitution. Yes, the Hummer is susceptible to IED's (many light transport vehicles are)... butthe Hummerhas been an effective tool in quickly moving troops across difficult terrain.
The important information you left out of your post is the ratio of lives NOT lost in Hummers to those NOT lost in other light transport vehicles. Then we must compare this to the ratio of Hummers that the US Military has deployed to Iraq in regards to the total number of light transport vehicles.
Only then can you make a statement like that.
