Help! Won't start..crank or anything!
 

This is crazy but my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 19,500 miles on it won't start. It won't turn over...no clicking...nothing...nada!!! Turn the key and it appears to have full power as the radio comes on, clock is still set, headlights work, etc. It won't turn over. It's under full warranty and I've had it towed to the dealership twice already. The first time they replaced the PCM (powertrain control module) and a week later back to the same thing it wouldn't start. The second time they replaced the ignition switch and now two days later same thing...won't start won't crank, click or anything!! It's about to get towed to the dealership for the third time. What the heck could be going on with this? It's not costing me money because it's under full warranty but it's very aggravating and so far I've been fortunate that I was at home when it wouldn't start so I didn't get stranded somewhere. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for the help!!

hmm.. the only thing i could think of is somewhere in the wiring its a little restrictive or a bad connection... I'm not to sure.... If its under warranty just explain to them that you want it all checked out so you dont have to come back everyday!

My guesses would be bad contact to the starter or somewhere between the ignition switch and starter or possibly a faulty relay.

I've explained to the dealership that I want it thoroughly checked out. The last time the truck got towed to them when they go it it started right up for them. They kept if for 2 days and told me they couldn't find anything wrong and that it started for them every time they tried it. I went down there to pick it up and the porter went to get it and it wouldn't start. See!! I'm not crazy!! That's when they said it is the ignition switch so they replaced that and it last all of 2 days before not starting again for me. I'm afraid it's going to get towed down there again andit will start for them or they will say they can't find anything wrong.There must be adefinitive wayfor them to diagnose this problem isn't there?

I didn't even mention the part of the story where the tow truck pulled my truck up onto the flatbed and the winch lock broke at the last moment andmy truck rolled back down theflat bedand through my garage wall!!!! ARGGGHHH!!!!!!

ouch sounds like you are having a true tough time.... I'm trying to think what else it could be... parts/service might have some input when he comes on...

Sorry for your troubles. Please post the fix when they get there. Twice mow my has done this, however it will start after the second or third try. Same thing dealer says all is well, no codes, nothing wrong.

Make sure that your gear is shifting correctly. A friend of mine would show his truck on Park and it was just a hair off. He had to make sure that the shift was tight otherwise it just would not start. It may be something as simple as that.

Thanks for the idea. I actually had already thought of that. I've put it in and out of gear a bunch of times trying to insure that it was all the way in park but still nothing.....

that is just odd... I am sorry. I would have them tear trhe completele ignition system. It can be something as simple as a module going bad. Best of luck
