Anybody have Cooper Discoverer HT's?
Looking for a new set before the snow comes and the cheapest/good set i've found is $455ish for 4 new ones in the 275/60-20.
Any thoughts on wear and traction? I do have a decent sized winter up here and the stock HP's were awful in the snow even in 4wd.. alot of side movement and way too much ABS reaction. |
Last January I had a 2003 1500 QC Hemi and it came with a new set of 20" HT's. I drove through two decent snowfalls with them here in CT and I thought they handled well. The local Dodge dealer I do business with puts those HT's on all their trade-in used pickups and they told me they were good tires for the money.

I don't know about the Cooper's but, Consumer Reports rated the Nitto Terra Grappler as the best AT tire.

I have driven a pickup with Discoverer HT's on it and I found them to be fairly capable for a Highway tire in Wisconsin Winters as long as you understand the limits of a highway tire vs. a AT or snow tire
|
Can't comment on the HTs, but I ran a pair of Discoverer M+S with studs for 4NW CT winters on a 2wd 91 D250 diesel and never got stuck.:)
I'll run the same on this truck |

Attachment 1017i got new tires last october and they still look like new w/ all road miles(no off roading).
i got the 20"Cooper Zeon LTZ E-Rated. theyre excellent in the snow and road(very minimal noise)i now have over 25k on them and the tread depth is still easily over 3/4. they cost more, but are well worth the $ to me. i got them at discount tire. |
For $455ish for all 4 tires you can't complain about that price especially for just winter tires but I would spend a little extra and get some decent A/T's though. You get what you pay for. A buddy of mine has the Discoverer ST and he loves them.

We don't have "all season" here, we have winter. My 00 1500 sport 4+4 had 4 Cooper Discoverer m+s studded. Great for getting around when most (or all) cars were still home in their drive ways. Going with the Firestone Winterforce studded this winter. Better $$$ than the Coopers.

Consider also the Bridgestone Winter Dueler tires
which get consistently good reviews as a snow tire Bridgestone also runs a winter driving school http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVqCgW__BYU I have nothing against Cooper Tire which is an old customer of mine and other family members |
nice lookin tire, the only down fall I see in the Bridgestone Winter Dueler is, it is not stud able. I know, I know......some people swear by them some swear at them. I like studs.
