Looking to lift and add 38's
Hey guys I was just wondering if I could get squeeze 38's on my 05 QCSB 4x4 with a 4'' suspension lift and a 3'' body lift. I am looking at the BFG KM2's at 38x14.5x17 size on a 17x10 rim that has 4.5'' of backspacing. I would be willing to do some minor trimming if needed because I don't want a 6'' suspension lift for the life of me since they more than over stress the ball joints and tie rods. That and if I lift it any higher than that my truck will be too tall to be legal so that is not an option considering that it is my DD.

i think they might be too big for the ifs. ive seen alot of people break all kinds of *hit with too big of tires on ifs and have also done it myself. the ifs system just isnt setup for tires that big, maybe a SFA swap may be in order?

are you sure you want to go that big of a tire on a IFS front end??? if your going to be going offroading often i wouldnt do it on 38's with an ifs front unless i had the money to fix problems that may arise from it, but thats just me. the biggest i would go on mine would probably be 35 MAYBE 36 and i would do the 4 inch suspension and 3 body just cause like you said it wouldnt put as much stress as a 6 inch lift....you should be able to fit those big ass tires with a adapter amd some trimming. also you may want to look into regearing up to at least 4.56 to turn that big of a tire too.. take a look at romeosoldier running 36's on a 3 inch body lift and a leveling kit, seems to be working out good for him. but 38's is HUGE. haha

ya +1 on the gear swap but with that big of a tire i would go for a solid front axel setup, or trade your truck in on a 2500 model
|
Clearly I would be adding 4.56 gears and a DTT in the back. The 38's would be beastly and I would probably change out the ball joints before I would put them on because I wouldn't be lifting the truck for a little while still. And I really don't off road much, just the occasional short cut thru a road that doesn't exist. lol I am not too worried about power because in the spring I will be putting H/O cams, CAI, Gibson headers, Magnaflow free flow cats, magnaflow 5x8 muffler, and probably a tuner. Then would be race ported heads and probably a supercharger because I can get one and have it installed for about 1000. Then a torque converter with 2600-2800 stall speed and 4.56 gears. Basically power won't be the biggest of issues... Just the tires.

yeah i wasnt worried about power. worried about your IFS. if its going to be a pavement queen you should be fine with 38's especially with all the power adders you plan on doing... how big is that money tree in your backyard??? i wish i had an extra $10000laying around to spend on my truck....
|
did you just say you can buy a supercharger and have it installed for $1000??? damn whos desk have you been under lately?
|
It is not big. I am paying for it along with my truck, school, food, and I just got engaged a few weeks ago. It was the best $3000 mod I had ever done. :D But I am 19 and very ambitious and have absoultly no debt. I hate owing anyone anything so I don't by it if a can't write a check for it. But these are going to be over a duration of time and I am going to slowly keep adding on. I just think that the 38's will look awesome on that truck with just a 4'' suspension lift and a 3'' body lift. lol My truck looks just like DodgeNitto's except for the fact that my front end is chrome instead of red.

or the whole IFS front end.. from the 6" lift... I would worry about the stress of a set of 38's.. The hubs, ball joints and steering system, is not made for the kinda tire wieght, and rotating mass.. Id say go with a 6" suspension lift only, and a Nice set of 35', and 4.56's If your really set on 38's might really consider trading in for a 2500, or a Straight axle conversion But this is My $0.02 |
