Who has HIDs and don't like them?
 

I'm just curious as I'm about to lay down some money for these. After reading this article, http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...dvantages.html , I've been wondering if it really is that great of an investment or not. I'm looking for people who have used HIDs and maybe have some concerns about them just so I can have some insight on something I've never used before.

i ordered projectors fitted with HIDs, over 3 weeks ago, and their supposed to come thursday. i have trouble seeing at night so i figured id go this route, even tho im not big on the looks of the projectors.

however after riding in a friends TL through the mountains about a week ago.. i must say HIDs really do not put out much light. I mean sure its crystal clear light, but it does not shine far at all.

i got an hid kit from ebay and loved the light output. only problem was without projectors there was alot of stray light and it didnt look all that great when on because the light was all over the place. i got a set of 07 headlights and i am currently waiting to get some projectors and im going to attempt a retrofit. when done right With projectors and hids it looks great and somewhat oem in these trucks. oh yeah i got an 8000k kit.
also the kit i had only plugged into one headlight so i woul dget a lamp out with the other side open. so you can either buy a cancellor to plug into one side or make a harness that ties both sides together, which is the route i went because i was able to get wire,pins and connectors for free from work.
if you are trying to compare hid to silverstars THERE IS NO COMPARISON. HID is 100 times better. if that helps at all.

As long as your headlights are clear, they'll work. Although, it'll be alot of output everywhere unlike a projector. HID's are awesome if you do alot of night driving. I can see a little over 1/4mile down the road with it reflecting everything from signs to deer eyes. I've saved myself from enough deer in the past year with them.

I don't think there is anyone that will say HID's aren't great. The issue comes to buying Quality items. You get what you pay for with them simple as that. There's a reason why McCulloch's cost $300 for a set of Bi-xenons.
Our bulbs are dual filament so that means the high and low work from one bulb. In order to retain your factory high beams along with low beams, you need to get Bi-xenon HID's. The regular one's are only low beams.
Another thing is the ecu will have a lamp out warning or mainly light flicker constantly if you donot do as Nick said. You can pick up some cheap cancellor kits on Ebay. They are simply a capacitor to stop the fluctuating pulses of voltage being sent to the light. This smooths out the light and stops the flicker as well as eliminates any bulb out warnings.


The closer to 4300k bulbs you choose will be whiter and closer to daylight appearance. The further away you get, the bluer and dimmer the light will become. A 6k bulb will have a hint of Blue and you will loose a fraction of light ouput. An 8k bulb will be more blue than white and will loose even more light ouput than the 6k bulb. A 10k bulb is pure blue and it will have evn less output. Any higher you go the light source will change to purple and your light output will degrade the higher you go.

I got them. I love them! I have them in my bike and im gonna have them in my Intripied too. Light output is awesome and its a head turner at night.

Sounds good. I'm not sure who actually clicked and read the link but after I read it I began to second guess if these lights are really beneficial at all but I've found so many positive reviews on these lights that they must be that good.

yes you get what you pay for DONT cheap on on it. i got a set for around $200. came with bi-xenon bulbs ballast and all wiring. like i said only reason i took them out is because they didnt look like oem hids that come in the luxury cars with hids from factory. once i put projectors in they will look great. there is a guy out there selling stock headlights with projectors retrofitted with hid kit. its looks soo good but its alot of dough (thats why i will attempt the project on my own this spring). ireally didnt like the way the light looked unfocused and all over the place. looked cheasy to me.

i geuss i just like the focused projector hid look better than glared crazy light all over the place look. Plus i didnt like getting beeped and flashed at.

i bought a set of mccullochs of one of the guys on here last year and the things didnt work
