new here, here's my Ram
Picked up my truck 3 weeks ago tomorrow. It's an 05 with the 5.7. 37,000 miles. I love it other than finding out today that my rack and pinion is leaking and will have to be replaced. I'm not real happy about that, I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see what they can do. I only have a 3 month 3,000 mile warranty covered at 50 / 50 and the 7 / 70,000 powertrain. Nothing like something like this coming up before I make the first payment! Anyway, here it is......

Good lookin' truck. I like the all white look. Nice nice nice! When are you going to start moddin' er....personalizing it?

It won't be long. I definitely have some plans for it.

Welcome to the forum and white trucks are faster!!!!!

LOL, yes sir!

What state you located in? Here in NY that truck would automatically have a 90warranty by the dealership that sold it. No cost to the buyer. NY law. It depends on the year and mileage, besides if the dealership was anything decsent then they would fix it.

I'm in Ohio. I've only had it 3 weeks as of tomorrow and I've barely put 1,000 miles on it. My power train warranty won't cover it but and my 3 month, 3,000 mile warranty is only a 50 / 50 warranty so unless they want to work with my I'll be forking out 50% if they do it. If they won't work with me, I may go down to advanced auto and pick one up. They've got them for $183 with a lifetime warranty. Changing it looks fairly simple. It just sucks because I just bought the truck and haven't even made the first payment.

Well, if it's warranty work and you pay half, I would demand to see the book rate. It will show how long Chrysler pays out for warranty work. That will stop them from overcharging you to make up some of their 50% loss.
I'm willing to bet the Mopar Rack is about $400 and labor is 2.5hrs @ $85+/-/hourly rate That's $306 plus tax for your share Just my guess |
Just remember if you do it yourself, your gonna need to have the alignment checked because more than likely the toe will be off. That generally runs $80

I'll keep you guys updated. This happened to a buddy of mine as well. He bought his 05 and the rack went out in one week. He actually called me the day I bought mine and said to keep an eye on it because they're notorious for going out and that there should be a recall on it. He actually got his replaced for $200 said and done after talking to the dealer.
If I end up having to pay half I think I'm just going to get the rack from advanced auto and do it myself. The rack is $183 and add an alignment and cost of fluid I'm still under $300. With it having a lifetime warranty I won't have to worry about forking out more cash after another 30,000 miles. |
