33x12.5 on TRX4 wheels?
I have an '06 (IFS) TRX4 with the 17" alloys. I found a great deal on some 33x12.5x17 Baja Claws and with my leveling kit up front, I'm not concerned about the height, but can a 12.5" tire mount on the stock TRX4 wheels? I don't think they are quite wide enough, but some have told me that they are. I would think that even if they fit on the wheel, the width would cause some bad rub.
Anyone here have 33x12.5s on stock 17 TRX4 wheels? Would you suggest new wheels? If the tires fit the wheels would you suggest spacers to prevent rub? Someone with experience, please chime in.
Thanks
Sam

Yep, they'd rub a bit. I'd also recommend a minimum 9" wheel. Get you a nice wheel with about a 4.5" backspacing and a negative offset and you'd be golden.
Crager Soft 8s in either black or chrome are about those specs and are not very expensive in 17x9 & black only about $70 a wheel. Also the Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek aluminum wheels have about the highest strength to weight ratio in the industry and can be had for well under $200 a piece.
The Baja Claw is an AWSOME tire, I had a set on my '94 Wrangler, but be forewarned, the trade off with these super rock climber and well above average mud tire is handling on pavement. It's NOT a siped tread and can be downright squirrely on wet roads!

That's pretty much what I had heard. A 12.5 will fit on a factory wheel but isn't recommended and most places won't mount it. And of course the UCA rubbing with that width. Any recommendations on a tire size that fits on the factory wheel better? I was also looking at some Terra Grapplers. Like I mentioned, I have a level on the front. Would definately like a tire that performs better than these crap Goodyears that came on it and some tires that fit the wells better.

Appreciate the info. According to my research those would be 11.2 wide and 32.7 high. Debating on getting spare wheels and tires or just throwing new tires on my stock wheels. The stock wheels are pretty restrictive when it comes to tire width due to their width and the backspacing.. I think it's the backspacing at least. I don't want to get spacers but I want wider tires that won't hit my UCA. Is the backspacing the proper thing needed to avoid that? Or is it the offset?

both. you want a negative offset and backspacing between 4.25-4.75"... If it's 12.5s you want, don't settle! You'll either have to live with a tire size you really didn't want for 40k miles or more OR lose your a$$ getting what you want later.
I don't like spacers myself, I'm still from the day when they were sh*t and you heard about wheels coming off. Supposedly better now, but hell, you'll have what $250-300 in four spacers? Put it toward a set of nice wheels. Nothing wrong with Soft 8s in black or chrome at around $70 in black and maybe just over $100 in chrome...
Notice how the bolts are recessed and the wheel is dish shaped? That's what will get the tire out from being tucked under the tire well so far and give you the clearance for the tire width you want...

There's like six guys with Wranglers in my hunting club and five of them have Soft 8s. They only get a little bit of a bad rap because being steel they are a little heavy, but they are still lighter than our stock steel crap, cheaz chrome plated wheels at a fraction of the cost of aluminum wheels!
I have Mickey Thompson aluminum wheels on the truck, but have a set of black soft 8s for my Grand Cherokee waiting for me at my buddy's tire shop when I can get back up to Georgia...
