Tran's temp ?
What is a safe temprature for the trany to run at? Last night I had to tow my brothers car on a 1500 lb. trailer and his car was about 4200lbs. I towed 250 miles at 75 to 80 M.P.H. and the trany over a fairly steep grade heated to 143 degrees F. I ran with the tow/haul on all the way.
Any help would be greatly appreciatd. Thanks. |
Hate to threadjack but id like to know, im debating adding a tranny temp or pressure guage...which should i run with or both?
Temp speaking, id guess you are ok...but im far from an expert. |
yea i just bought a srt 10 gauge pillar and gonna put the trans temp gauge in it

Generally speaking, there are no adverse effects on transmission fluid at temperatures below 175F. Once transmission fluid gets to 175F, it starts to oxidize. If your tranny fluid temperature was seriously sticking to under 150F, I would say you have no worries!!!
Are you using an external cooler? If using the stock cooler (the one built-in to the radiator), it's hard to believe your transmission would have stayed that cool. If you consider that transmission fluid is flowed through the internal cooler on the radiotor to remove heat from the tranny fluid and then consider that the coolant temperature is 195F+, then it's pretty easy to deduce that the tranny fluid usually gets hotter than 195F... 250F is not uncommon. |

I'm not sure on what gauge to use because my Edge Evo has it on it. Sorry I couldn't help.

The only benifit that I can think of is, one the Edge is electronic and then the oil gauge if its mecanical then you would have a back up of either one.
