Default Check Engine Light

This morning I started up my truck and noticed the check engine light on, I started it up and powered it off 3 times but no code shows, it runs fine nothing noticebly different and i checked my gas cap and it is tight so it can't be that. What should I do? I did drive it to school and nothing seemed wrong

I am also not due for an oil change for another 600 miles

possibly an o2 sensor?

Thanks

You say you started it up?? and powered it off 3 times? You are not supposed to crank it just switch it on,off,on,off and on to see the codes. You have a 2002 I believe? not sure if that even works on that model truck. I have a buddy with a "
'04 and it doesn't. I would take it to Advance or Auto Zone and have it checked out unless you have a tuner.

the dealer will probably charge you for scanning, where it's free at your local auto parts store. Yeah, my guess would be emissions related. O2, EGR or Evap system...

nope, but you can reset it... It'll just come back though if you haven't fixed the problem. It's not hurting anything to leave it on, and if the problem is minor, it's not a bad idea to have that light as a reminder so you fix it...

the tech ed teacher used a superchip to figure out what the problem was and i guess it said there was a vacuum leak so we check the engine for that and everything seemed tight with the cables, we also checked the gas cap and it was on tight but maybe i didnt click it enough times last time i filled up so maybe the engine caught that so it threw the CE light on the dash...we reset the computer so if it comes on again ill bring it to a dealer
