Question U joints

The U joint on the drivers side of my 2004 ram has to be replaced. We started taking it apart and made it to the 4 bolts on the inside. We got the bolts off but could not get the thing to break away to get the shaft out. Is it easier to just cut the u joints off with a torch without taking the shaft out?
Just a backyard mechanic so be patient, trying to save a few bucks

It looks like you need to remove the bearing first, then pull the axle out through the hub, the FSM isn't really that clear. I haven't done it myself yet. You may want to get a copy of the fsm

Thanks, I bought a hayes book but they really didn't cover that part. I think we're giving up on it and bringing it to a garage.
Thanks anyway
