My manual 4.7L 6 Speed won't shift

Sorry for posting a new thread (I tried the search feature but it wasn't coming up with any threads)

I was driving home today and my ram was making a "clicking" sound from stop. I got a few blocks from home and the truck would barely go into 1st or second gear from a stop. Once moving the truck would shift...but still felt a little "tight". I got it home and was going to drive it over to dad's house, but now it won't go into gear at all. Any ideas what could be wrong? I've had this truck since new and just turned over 40,000 miles on the OD without any major problems before today? I guess I'll be calling the dealer for a tow and costly repairs tomorrow morning. Please help...:(

went out and played with the truck some more. It will shift when the motor is not running but locks up once I start the engine. Strange? Could there be a sensor or something?

Can you get it into any gear while the engine is running -- reverse, 3rd, etc?

If I had to guess it sounds like you're going to need a trans rebuild. You could have a bad clutch (maybe a broken spring) but nothing will be known until the disassembly.

I would check to see if there is any fluid in the clutch master cylinder reservoir, then check to see if the clutch pedal bracket is broken, then check to see if the release lever moves with the slave cylinder when the pedal is pushed down.

I can't get it to go in any gear 3rd, REV, etc when the engine is running. I don't feel like I have beat the clutch hard enough to break it after 40K?

From what I can tell the clutch would not be under my powertrain 7yr/70K warranty.

sounds to me like the clutch is doing it's job

I shifted into reverse with the engine off, then started the truck. I could then move in reverse and shift-roughly into 2nd gear. I'm scared to drive it anywhere, I don't want to cause more damage. I'll have to check the fluid in the master cylinder in the morning when it's daylight. Although that should be okay since I just had the dealer check all the fluids 3 weeks ago. Sigh...

Your clutch is not disenguaging. You have a problem with the master cylinder or the slave cylinder. That would be covered in your warranty I believe. The cltuch is doing its job by staying engauged hints not being able to shift when engine is running, its just not disengauging when you push the clutch pedal. Turn off the truck put it in gear and push in the clutch and see if your buddies can push the truck or coast down a hill without it trying to turn the engine over...
