Question Drivers Door Wont Open

My 2005 Dodge Ram 1500, will not unlock the door with fob or the with the key, so I cannot open the door from the outside. If I go inside from the passenger door it will open but the handle feels different than what I'm used to. If I use the fob you can see the door lock stem move up and then back down. Any ideas what this might be, I hate taking it to the Stealership at 120.00 hr.

sounds like maybe a rod came off. maybe take the doorpanel off and see if there is anything that has fallen off or broke. If u cant find anything try taking the passanger side off and comparing for anything that looks differant.

Well I can tell you exactly what it is.......happened to me about 2 months ago. Your door lock mechanism is frozen. You will have to replace it. Cost me $65 shipped if memory serves me correctly. Took about 30 minutes to replace it. The problem is that if you have not changed the way your truck unlocks, meaning 1 click of the key fob unlocks all doors, you have to click the key fob twice to unlock all doors. When you do this, even though you aren't unlocking the drivers door again, you are cycling it just like you would if it was unlocking. Therefore it is getting twice the work out than every other door. It is a very common and it is easy to replace the locking mechanism. Let me know if you have any questions.

rcman,
They're just showing off. You see how much trouble they are having with all that fancy stuff.

I run a string through the window that is tied to the lock and my front door. When it is raining out I pull the string and run out to my truck. And When it gets warm out I push down on my door panel while my friend rolls down the passenger window. Sometimes I add in a "hmmm" of an electric motor.

Thank You Kebo, I have to figure out how to reprogram the key Fob, so one click does it all. Unfortunetly this truck only has a key lock on one door. I like the comments rcman made regarding the string, I would try that only how do I keep the rain out?
