My 08 1500 makes a similar noise, but only when going into reverse when it has just been started, then after it is warmed up it only makes the regular "buzzing" noise. Pretty annoying, but I back into my garage and space at work so I rarely hear it.
Mine does it everytime the truck goes into reverse, i never really worried about it.. its been doing it for about 3k miles and it still shifts fine. but i thought it was my shift kit that did it.
I get the same noise but i believe it to be the rear diff. Seems normal and only really happens when I am backing up on a slight or greater incline. i took the diff apart and filled it up with Royal Purple. I did not see any damage or any metal pieces on the magnet.
My 02 whines in reverse but only when its cold. Never had much of a grinding sound, but a whine for sure. Any one else have this sound. I was thinking it was just the dirty fluid and it needs to be replaced.
I had the same problem with my 2007 1500 Reg cab. Took it to one dealer and they informed me normal 'Dodge' noise. Took to a dealer in the next town and they changed out the transfer-case!
Yep, my truck has done since I bought it brand new in 07. It does it almost every time I put it into reverse. I took it back 4 times, no fix. They said it is normal.
