i recently lowered the rear of my truck with 2" leveling shackles. Now, when I go over a hump at and angle at twist the body, I hear a loud metallic pop. Is there something I can adjust or am I destined to hit bumps straight. Also, is this hurting anything?
post up some pics of under neath the truck its a pretty str8 forward swap so i cant imagine you hitting anything i have had my drop shackles on for 7/8 mths and no o/l leaf and im fine.....
I looked under there pretty hard when i had it on a lift. Nothing hitting. The springs so seem to be bent backwards. The normal U shape isn't there any more and when i lifted the truck to check it out, i heard a loud pop but didn't see anything move.
are your bolts tight on the shackles ? i mean if one was loose(most likely a top one) it could be slackin out or down(when lifted or raises on a bump) and then when pressure is on it it goes back to normal position...that could cause a pop sound.....follow me?
I tightened the crap out of all the bolts. Maybe I'll crawl under and loosen then retighten. Maybe that will help align anything that may be off a smidge.
I had lowering shackles on my 07 and had the same noise. Looked everywhere and could not see where it was touching. Decided it wasn't worth breaking something and put stock back on. Found a spot on the back of both shackle's where it was hitting the shackle mounts. Must be a little to short and laying back to far when go over bumps / humps.
I have had 2" shackles with the O/L spring removed for 6 years. No noise but I have notice that the spring lays very flat, as if it is too long. This could be a source for some noise as mentioned in a previous post. I'm going to heat and bend the spring just in front of the rear spring eye to get a little more drop and to effectively shorten the spring. I'll post some pictures when I am finished.
Good luck..
