It's so very sad...

...when it is cheaper for my father-in-law to fly me out to Arizona (sitting in the airport right now) to fix his Grand Cherokee than it is to have the garage that gave him the 800+ dollar estimate for a new rad install (not counting anything "else" they dig up) do it.

truckin151 Feb 23, 2010 08:53 AM

whoa... where did he take it?

lghtngblt02 Feb 23, 2010 09:00 AM

That is sad...

Off_Road_Teacher Feb 23, 2010 09:22 AM

Wow, that is pretty sad. Did he get more than one estimate?

oefootball_70 Feb 23, 2010 09:32 AM

Thats very very sad. FREE TRIP!

V10Venom Feb 23, 2010 09:53 AM

haha, at least it gives a good reason to visit! But yeah, that's absolutely ridiculous. How much is the new radiator? What were they thinking for labor? $200/hour?

HemiLonestar Feb 23, 2010 10:12 PM

$250 just for the rad, heinous labor charge because they claimed they have to take half the front end off to do it. From what I can tell right now, it isn't the rad, it's the water pump (4.0l I-6). I'll know better tomorrow. At least I'll be able to look at a bunch of stuff on the vehicle while I'm here. I was just amazed the damn thing doesn't have any DTC's.

Hey but at least you get some cool (or coochie) points for being the useful and available son-in-law who can help

One of the local garages and Pep Boys (he's like 72 and all alone out here, he teaches at ASU). On a different note, do you know if there are any junkyards in the area, like U-pull it type place?

Very true. Didn't think he'd actually take me up on it though....
