Default intake crud

installed my AEM brute force intake yesterday and when we pulled the throttle body off the manifold, the inside(manifold side) was this nasty brown color and it was wet. wiped it out and it looks and smells like oil. it was caked on and we used some carb cleaner to clean it up a bit. the crud seemed to be baked on and came off with the scrape of a finger nail but not a rag. this isnt normal right? any ideas on what the problem could be? its an 08 hemi with 20k miles on it.

It's normal to be dirty but not really at 20,000 miles. Do a search on here to get the procedures for removal and cleaning the throttle body. It will make a huge difference with throttle response. Clean it every 20,000 miles after that to stay clean. I just did mine at 100,000 miles and it was pretty dirty but runs good now. It's a 30 minute job also.
