what's best programmer that already has fuel economy setting?

i have a 2008 dodge ram 1500 sxt 5.7l hemi. i was wondering what is the best programmer that already has a fuel economy setting that you just push and you don't have to go changing things yourself?

oefootball_70 03-21-2010 10:51 AM

The superchips set on 91 performance has shown the best fuel economy

do you know if it's the flashpaq, the cortex or the mileagexs?

beecherr345 03-21-2010 01:31 PM

the cortex has a 2 year warranty for your vehicle with it so theres no reason NOT to get it. the flashpaq and cortex are the exact same except for the warranty.
the XS is just that. for better MPG's. since you have an 08 get the 3865(flashpaq) or the 3950(cortex) and youll have tranny control also. that will also help you get better mileage.

minime_0616 03-21-2010 02:12 PM

is the cortex the only one that will be covered in the dodge's factory warranty if something happens?

um. no. it wont be covered under the dodge warranty. Superchips gives a warranty on it if you buy that programmer. If you dont turn you programming back to stock before you take it into the dealer they can and most likely will void the warranty. its like that with any programmer though. they say since you changed the programming of the ECM they cant control what it will do so nothing will be there fault.

:icon_ditto::icon_ditto:

Yeah definitely install factory tune before going to dealer!!!

BadHab1t 03-21-2010 02:34 PM

only if your an original owner of the vehicle and have under x amount of miles....but yes superchips has the best known as of right now...and they would be 3865 or 3950(cortex)....

lxman1 03-21-2010 04:36 PM

They all will increase MPG by making the tune more efficient. My Diablosport Predator increased my mileage as well without changing anything.

this is very true, I just like and push the superchips because all the other companies have gone and forgotten about the 3rd gen rams and moved on to newer models and superchips is the only one really coming out with new updates for them.

lxman1 03-21-2010 05:25 PM

Diablosport is always working to improve older models as well. Working on a transmission update for the 3rd gen right now.

beecherr345 03-21-2010 06:00 PM

are you sure? i emailed them several months ago and they told me they werent going to invest time into the transmission stuff because it was already out of date. then SC came out with theres and its been all good.

is DSP going to do the 04-05, and 06 ones along with the 07-08? they all have differant systems. im waiting till SC comes out with the 06 stuff till i buy one.

AF_HEMI 03-21-2010 06:22 PM

DSP still hasnt forgotten about 03 either... SC has stated they will not try to tune the 03.

Off_Road_Teacher 03-21-2010 07:01 PM

Is DSP actually going to do trans tuning for us older 3rd gens? They have removed it as "coming soon" for the 04's and 03's on their webpage and now it says nothing at all about trans tuning coming for those two years.

beecherr345 03-21-2010 07:20 PM

yea, but the 03 has that wire you can cut or pull and it disables the TMR which is the same as the later versions with the more up-to-date ECM system. so they cant tune it a whole lot like the later versions that have TM and are limited on what they do my the computer.

Off_Road_Teacher 03-21-2010 07:23 PM

If DSP could copy the SC trans tuning after it gets released and then have full trans control and tm control along with the custom tuning option they would have a product that is hard to beat.

beecherr345 03-21-2010 07:31 PM

yep, that would be a sweet tuner, but im sure the SC engineers arent going to let that happen very easily.

I always though it would be great to sell a cable to be able to plug in a laptop to the truck port and have the tuning software on the laptop to tune and change things with. I would personally prefer that as to updating the tuner all the time and then going to the truck to update that.

What about an '03 Hemi? Would you recommend the flashpaq/cortex? Or the mileagexs

Don't mean to hijack, but are any of the tuners worth getting for the 4.7?

I bought the 3865 for my '03 4.7L and it doesn't do transmission and *maybe* 18HP (generously) gain. Although I felt a little more "omph," I ended up returning it as it didn't seem worth it to me. Not really much you can do to the 4.7 without getting into mechanics. I used the money towards gears instead and noticed more improvement in city driving mileage and get up and go than I ever did with the superchips.

Depends on the year. I have an '08 4.7L, and the 93 octane tune makes a world of difference at the throttle =D Makes the shifts feel more solid as well.

I think in '08 you have the HO 4.7L ... that's a huge difference alone :D
