Default Stumble/Hesitation

I have an 05 Ram Hemi and have been experiencing stumbling and hesitation shortly after starting up and driving when the truck is cold. Today it actually popped like a backfire, this is a first.

Recently I have done some tune up work (Plugs/Wires) (Throttle Plate Cleaned) to try and maybe solve the issue.
I am getting no CEL or codes so I have no leads as to what may be the problem.

From reading other threads the EGR valve may be the culprit but those threads seemed to always say that there was a CEL or code associated with a EGR problem.

Any other ideas????

try resetting the computer (PCM) by disconnecting the battery and waiting 20 mins then reconnect. Theres a quicker way but i can't remember and i don't want to give bad info lol

These trucks like to be reset if a part is replaced (air filter), or you clean it (TB)

I have an 05 as well and had similar issues (no backfire). My truck ran like that for a few weeks before the EGR valve CEL finally came on. It even stalled on me a few times. That may be the issue....

Ok....I will do a complete vacuum line check, not a bad idea to really know their condition anyways.

Now that you mention it I remember it stalling once.

As well I think I will change out the EGR, why not???.

Thanks

You can remove it and see if it looks like it is carboned up bad. If so, it is probably sticking open a little bit and causing a lean condition.

I had the same issue with my '04 5.7 Hemi, but would do it more below 50F.

I replaced the EGR valve ($40 O'Rielly's) You have to do a computer reboot or will continue acting up.

1. Remove #23 fuse (PCM)
2. Turn key to on (Not Start)
3. Wait for lights to go out
4. Turn key to Start and hold until 2 beeps. (about 10sec)
5. Reinstall fuse and start, 1st time it wont respond, 2nd time will start.

Hope this helps those that searched forever like i did
