I would pass on the poop pipe. It just would not look right and you are right it would bend and be droopy.

I made a set for a Furd Diesel I had back in my tourney fishing days out of 1/2" & 1" square steel tubing. Wasn't difficult, just a couple flat stock plates for mounting with some 2" long cut 1/2" square uprights welded on and and I think I used a 6' length of the 1" tubing as the truck was a long bed (8'). Then I just bought some of those square plastic black caps for the ends.

Painted it black (truck was white) and it looked fine and WAS functional. At the time (early 90's) I think I had all of about $15 in materials, I would imagine you could still make one for around $25.

Once again, I did have pics at one time (35mm ones) but the ex took ALL the photo albums. But this is an easy mod that would take all of about an hour to make.

If you don't have access to a welder, then get aluminum tubing and a propane torch and some aluminum rods and braze them, or even just solder them since you aren't looking for strength here.

I gotta agree with the others though, I just don't see PVC looking professional no matter how you finish it. Now I was going for function, although they didn't look bad by any means. If you want really good looks and have access to a pipe bender, you could go with round pipe and really make a nice looking setup...

Fella down the road from me is selling a black set for 50$ bucks and are like new. Search on CL and buy some used before using pvc. I agree with the sagging aspect and they just wont look right. Not a fan on how they look anyway, but to each his own. Nice truck!!!, so dont mess it up!! LOL
