So the transmission went out a few months ago on my pops' truck. Finally he got around to having someone look at it. Of course he's on the other side of the city so we weren't gonna pay the outrageous prices for a tow. Down to uhaul to get a trailer and off we went. She pulled it real well on regular streets and up on ramps, etc. I'm not sure of the weight of the trailer but the truck is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3500-4000 pounds. I don't tow much, but if I did I would surely be looking at air bags.

i just pulled a ford ranger about 50 miles last week and i was dreaming of airbags the whole trip..

 

I was thinking the same thing but since I don't tow a lot, I wasn't too worried about it. It's a great truck, the motor has 170,xxx miles and runs like new. It's a fun little truck for sure. I was just surprised how well my little 4.7 did with it.

 

my back end looked like yours there all stressed and compressed....

those nissans will last forever if you keep the maintnance. my 95 nissan pickup had 275,xxx miles on it when i traded it.. ran like a top

 

I agree. One of my buddies who has had his Nissan for years recommended at the time (2000) that if he was interested in a reliable mid-sized truck to look at the Nissan. The year that they came out with the new crew cab model was the year they went back to motor like was in your '95 that was bulletproof. The rear main seal is leaking and the tranny is shot. He's gonna rebuild the entire transmission from top to bottom, replace the rear seal and include a new torque converter for $1300 and warranty it for 3 years or 50,000 miles. Couldn't find anyone that came close to that price or warranty.

 

That's not a lot of weight to tow, I'm not surprised at all that the 4.7 did so relatively easily. The biggest single problem you run into is handling due to the tongue weight of such a load, which is where a weight distributing hitch or bags come into play.

BTW, I've had two Nissan 4x4 pickups, an '86 King Cab V6 and a '97 King Cab I4. The '86 was a primarily off-road truck and a beater while the '95 was my daily driver as my other vehicle of the time was a Furd diesel I used to trailer my bass boats for tournaments. Sold the Diesel and bought a Wrangler and then had to sell the Nissan as it was woefully inadequate with the bass boat. Traded the Nissan on the infamous new '97 Furd F-150 that cracked a piston and made me a Dodge man for life!!!

Side note, I know the guy who bought my old '96 Nissan. Owns the farm down the road from my little piece of land, last I talked to him, about 2 years ago, the Nissan was doing fine with 185,000 miles on it!!!

 

Yeah, just really haven't towed with it yet and was very impressed with the performance. That d@mn cherry bomb was really kickin' though. Hell, everyone was staring either at the sound or the fact they couldn't hear their car stereo's anymore as I went by.

 

That is why I love my air bags with on board air compressor!!!

I agree, but with the little amount I obviously tow, it's not worth it for me to bag it.
