05 Ram Idle's Real Low and then Dies
I recently purchased a Ram 1500 a week ago and it keeps dying on me when I sit at a stop light or sign. The truck runs fine when in motion, but idle's real low at a stop and then idles high and then dies out on me. Any suggestions? I have at the truck and two different shops and they can't seem to figure out the problem. I have replaced the batter and alternator and also had the injectors cleaned. I looked through the forum to see if anyone had a similar problem but did not find anything, might be because I'm not very computer inclined. Any advise offered is appreciated.

probably a throttle body issue. they are electronically controlled throttles.
or an egr issue |
Thanks for the advise. Picked up a new EGR valve on Sunday and was going to install it, but when I took the truck to the shop the mechanic told me to return it and get my money back cause it has nothing to do with the problem I having. Think he might be blowing smoke and I should replace it anyway?

Installed new ERG Valve and the problem is still ongoing. Took it to a Dodge dealer this morning and after $150.00 he assures me nothing is wrong with my truck, everything is running like it is supposed to but yet it still dies out. Any suggestions anyone?
I have also noticed that if I rev the engine to about 3 or 4 RPM it will dies as its coming back down to idle. |
Have you checked to see how dirty the air filter is and also check the throttle body

Are you getting any DTC codes or CELs? Did the mechanic seen the truck cut off when he had it or could he not replicate the issue?

i had the same issue on my prev ram 05 4.7 its your tps and your dirty t.b just take it off use some tb cleaner not CARB OR Break clean try that and see how it ends out

I recently installed a new K&N air filter about a week ago. I am not getting any engine codes what so ever. I have cleaned the Throttle Body and also had a new TPS installed. The dealer was unable to replicate the issue, go figure the one time it needs to do die out it doesent

Does it only do it when the A/C is on? Maybe the A/C compressor is on its way out and is drawing the idle down just enough to impact it? Its a long shot but maybe?
