Is your air conditioning WEAK????
i got a 05 dodge ram 2500 hemi 4x4 and i normally done use the A/C but i finally starting using it in my new truck and it is only cold when i have it on re-circulate A/C (the little pic of the truck w/ the arrow inside the cab) anyway when i put it on pull from outside the cab A/C it isnt that cold. is anyone elses like this.... usually in my other vehicles when its on outside air its is colder but just blows slower.. i figure the truck should be like an icebox.. but its not>>>>?????

I have a 04 and i noticed that myself too. I have to have it recirculated to be real cold. As big as the engine is, it should be freezing in there. So i know what you mean. Also depends where you live, cause humidity is worse so its hotter and you really want it to be alto colder.

I will try to explain this like my father, who repairs A/Cs, explained it to me. However, you probably should have your A/C charged first to be sure it at least has freon. An A/C unit does not cool the air, it takes the heat out of it. I hope that makes sense, it didn't to me. Anyway, the hotter it is outside, the less efficient your A/C appears to work. When you recirc the air in your truck, some heat is taken out, then on the next pass (to keep it simple) more heat is taken away. This way it appears to work better than drawing the outside air in. Humidity seems to change the variables as well. Again, I hope this makes sense.

Scratch did a good explanation and here is a way to test it yourself.
Any AC unit can only drop the temp across its coil around 20 degrees with a good charge.
That means if its 85 outside, you can only cool the air down to 60 and that's it.
If you recirculate the air, the air temp in the truck starts to drop, thereby the ac drops the cooler air by 20 degrees, etc.
You should NEVER run your ac without the recirc on. If you really want it to cool.
