Default Dodge Ram 1500 transmission

My 2005 Dodge truck always wants to go to overdrive all the time. It goes into overdrive going up hills. When you depress the tow/haul button it shifts down for a short period of time and then goes back into overdrive. I have the 4.7 engine and my gas mileage is horrible. I think part of it is i always have to kick it down to get out of that darn OD. Is it set up wrong or can I disable it?

You prob have 3:55 gears which actually hinder the 4.7L's power and mpg potential. Going up to a 4:10 would be beneficial.
Using Tow/haul, the truck shifts down into 3rd. Then, what feels like O/D is actually 4th gear because essentially these trucks realistically have 2 overdrives, 4th & 5th. Your only locking out 5th with Tow/haul and prolonging 4th engagement. I don't think you have O?D off option on your '05? If so, that disables both 4th and 5th completely.
You can look into tuners to boost your transmission tuning or go gears. Those 2 are the only solutions I have for ya bud.
