Default 2004 Ram

New to the forum. I am needing some help. I have a 2004 4.7 liter 1500 that I am looking to put a new engine in, all the used part dealers imply that a engine from 1994 and up will work. I found a 2010 with 7K miles on it. Are these engines interchangeable? I am concerned because of the 6 year gap that the computer/electronics might not be the same. Please help...

A 2004 1500 cannot just have any 4.7L from 94+ plopped in place of the original. There are differences, your specific engine they may not hav,e so instead they will try to sell you something that you'll basically have to strip down and convert so it'll fit your truck.
I know that the Dodge Durangos and Jeeps have 4.7L's, but their crankshaft sprockets are DIFFERENT. This means that you would need to pull apart the entire motor(including crankshaft/piston removal) to swap over crank sprockets so the engine will fir your RAM.
Be careful of those junkyards.... They usually only give merchandise credit on refunds so if you buy something from them and it don't fit, your screwed! cuz chances are they aren't going to have the correct item if they sold you a close-to already.
Also, the newer one's won't work either because they were revamped in 2008 with an additional 90or 100HP, so the programming will be different for that one as well. I don't believe you can even swap out the newer one because the odometers are interconnected with the newer TIPM electronics. You need to get a 4.7L from a 2003-2007 Ram 1500.

Default Turns out my 04 is a 02

Just got my truck back. I elected to have the engine rebuilt instead of finding a used engine. I got it rebuilt in Garland TX for $2500. Here is what they did
replaced water pump, Engine Cylinder head gasket set, engine Valve stem seal set, replace valve lifters, replaced engine oil pump, Timing cover seal, timing set, engine connecting rod bearing set, crankshaft main bearing set, crankshaft thrust washer set, cylinder head bolt set, piston set, piston ring set, oil pan gasket set, conversion gasket set, oil & filter, antifreeze, spark plugs, rebuilt and install engine long block, replace short block and crank, replace cylinder heads, replace belts, replace fan clutch, replace radiator. He gave me a one year warranty on engine rebuild. I felt that this was a great deal! What do you think?

Sounds good, especially with a warranty
