2007 Ram 1500 SLT Gascap light

My Ram has the Hemi and about 57,000 miles on it. The check engine light is on and the gascap light is on at the speedo. We hook it up to the computer and it wont read anything, it just says error. What could be wrong with the gascap, I know it is on right and tight. I could fix it if the obd III could tell me what is wrong.

buy a new gascap and see if it helps...my seal went and caused a CEL and apparently im gonna have to buy a mopar one because my new one went within 6 months

The CEL is a generic for an evap system leak, could be the gas cap, but could also be a leak anywhere in the evap system. The hoses used aren't the best quality out there and the hose clamps used throughout the truck are about the cheesiest I've ever seen.

If the gas cap don't fix it, I have a map of the entire evap system in the FAQ section, trace it and look for a split hose or broken clamp. The hoses like to split at the ends. A common place right at the canister...

It's OBD-II, but unless it is a new scan reader that does the 06-up CAN-BUS system, it won't read anything. I have an older OBD-II scanner that won't scan my 3 Dodges, but my Diablosport Predator will.

i just had the exact same thing on mine all i did was take a little spit on my finger rub it on that seal around the gas cap and with a little air compressor blow in the center of the cap where that little hole is there might be some dirt around it light went off worked like a charm

Yeah, my ex-wife's Grand Cherokee had the light go off and I cleaned the seal of the gas cap off with an alcohol prep pad and it went off. About two months later it came back on, wasn't as lucky that time though. Turned out to be a broken clamp right at the canister.
I wasn't a "Forum Guy" back then, but was lucky enough to have an uncle who was a life-long Chrysler mechanic who worked at the same dealership 38 years who told me what to look for, LOL...
