Key won't fit in the tailgate
 

Okay, so this is probably a pretty dumb question so please, be gentle with a first time Ram buyer.

I recently purchased a 2008 Ram 1500 (3.7L) and had a brand new key cut at the dealership (it was cut from the VIN number, not from the key I was given when I bought it).

Despite my best efforts I cannot get the key to fit in the tailgate. Am I doing something wrong? Or does the door/ignition key not (un)lock the tailgate?

I just bought this Ram at the start of the month, and its the first big truck I've ever owned. I've always bought small cars in the past because up until 2 years ago I lived in the city.

no trucks that im aware of came with keyed tailgates which means its an after market and add on. so if you dont have the key then ask the dealer or try to track down the PO. if that fails then its time to leave well enough alone or replace it
