2004 dodge ram 2500 hemi oil pressure problems!

Every once in awhile I start my truck and my oil pressure guage says I have no oil, so I shut my truck off and start it again and then its fine. I check my oil every day and its fine. Whats goin on with it?

Usually it is a bad oil sending unit if there is no engine noise.

weedahoe 11-30-2011 06:30 PM

agreed. oil sending unit right above the oil filter. go to your local auto parts store and pick one up

Are they hard to replace?

weedahoe 11-30-2011 06:40 PM

no, they just unscrew from the block

Thanks Mr. Weedahoe. I have one on order & should have it installed this evening after work. Should I put any type of sealant on the threads? Teflon ect?

Thanks

weedahoe 12-01-2011 12:58 PM

No thread sealant because the threads provide ground thro the block for the sensor

Is there any danger to no replacing this right away? My pressure dropped to zero and the check guages light came on, but no engine noise or check engine light. 2005 Ram 2500 5.7L. Don't want to damage something trying to get home from work and then back to the parts house tomorrow.

Thanks!!

Only damage is that IF you really are at zero pressure you wont really know it and blow the engine
