Default 4.56 gears price. I got a quote. have a few question.

$1900 front and rear. Including Eaton tru trac, Moto gears, front and rear master install kits. Pretty fair price I think. Driveline service of pittsburgh is the company. The fellow I talked to told me the 4.56's will make alittle noise going down the road, were as the 4.10's won't. He said it is because the way they mesh. He also said if I decided to go with the 4.56's the noise will have no effect on the vehicle and the gears should last for life. They warranty all the work for 6months. That's with either gear set. He also said I should not have to worry about changing my fluids after 500 miles like some people do. Does this sound like a good place to get my gears swapped?? Should I get 4.10 or 4.56??? This will be for towing and around town driving.

I would go with the 4.10 Gears just so you don't run into problems with ride quality when you're unloaded... Also the 4.56's will sound like a freakin supercharger going down the road... specially when you don't have any load... and you'll be looking at a significantly reduced top speed...

ALWAYS CHANGE YOUR FLUIDS AFTER 500 Miles! I don't care what they say! you do not want all those metal shavings in there.....

Also make sure you have a tuner that will allow you to change the gear ratios else you will run into tons of shifting and speedo accuracy issues...

That is a very nice price... as for your other two questions... what are you towing? how are you mounting it to the truck? 5th Wheel? Class __ Hitch? and how much weight on average will you be towing? Are you towing long distance?

Tell us a little more about what your plans are for towing....

I don't understand how the 4.56 will whine like a supercharger going down the road.......look on this site..... there is a lot of people on this very site that have this same ratio and little to no noise at all. I don't understand what the difference is if I bought I brand new truck and don't need to change my diff fluids after 500 miles. Why do I have to do it to a brand new set of gears in a used truck???? What's the difference? both sets of gears are brand new!

I will be towing about 6500lbs gvwr trailer. About 1000lbs in people. So that's about 7500lbs give or take total extra wheight. 1000lbs of payload. 6500lbs of trailer wheight. Class iv reciever, brake controller, wheight distribution hitch, and sway bars.

they are a straight cut gear, so they will make a whining sound... I don't have speakers on my computer at work, but go listen to some trucks on youtube with high gear ratios and you'll hear what I mean.

It's not a "supercharger" sound exactly... but it sounds pretty crazy...

I dont know what the laws are in your state but towing that much weight isn't going to go over well if you get stopped by a DOT officer or a real D**khead cop, as you will be well over the weight rating for your truck...

I mean you're basically pulling nearly 1.5 times the weight of your truck... You might want to consider going with either a HD Suspension and a 5th wheel... Or even better a nice Cummins Diesel truck.

Also after 500 miles of driving on new diff and trans parts there will be some wear associated with the gear mating process, in which there is a ton of metal shavings created that you do not want to keep recirculating all over your nice new expensive gearsets... but hey what do I know right? I've only built like 15 cars in the 400+ WHP/TQ area... lol

Truck is rated gvwr 13000. 6500 trailer weight. 1000 lb people weight. That's 7500 llbs. Truck weighs 5550lb. That's 13050lbs. 50lbs over limit. If my gear ratio was stock 3.90, my truck would have 14000gvwr. But it doesn't. Its 3.55. My trailer weighs 4600lbs dry. Already weighed it. I'm able to put 1900lbs of my stuff in it for travel. There's no way I will have 1900lbs of stuff for 1 weeks vacation. I think I will be fine towing it. I just don't understand why 4.10 gears are quite when 4.56 are noisey. The put 4.56 in the power wagons and there not noisey.

Doesn't matter what you do to your truck, the manufacturer posts the GVWR not you... so whatever it says on the door placard is what you are rated for...

Plus that weight of 5,500# is the dry weight if I recall..... you need to get the real weight (aka Curb Weight).

If you get into an accident (god forbid) the insurance companies involved can refuse to cover you because you were operating your vehicle in an "unsafe manner" or w/e they wrap it around... I've seen it happen here in my state with one of my company's customers... and now we have very strict weight limits on our trucks...

Okay then enjoy... My vote is for 4.10 gears... I think the 4.56's will be too noisy, but if that doesn't bother you in the slightest.................... do it!
