Pilot Bearing or something else?
Okay I'm hoping I'm posting this in the right section.
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 6 cylinder with a 6 speed manual transmission. I believe the transmission is a Getrag 238 (I could be wrong). The transmission was rebuilt in January of 2014 because 3rd gear went out. About a week ago I started hearing something when I let up off the gas while it was in 2nd and 3rd. I immediately took it to a transmission shop and they dropped the transmission and inspected it. I'm being told it's the pilot bearing and it's going to take a week to fix and cost $1,400.00 to do it. I'm being told they have to order the parts because this type of truck isn't that common. Now I'm getting everyone who thinks they know something about mechanical issues putting their 2 cents in. Like it shouldn't take that long to get the part, the parts only $40.00, and the pilot bearing isn't even in the transmission so it shouldn't be costing me this much. I know what a pilot bearing is and what it does, I'm just not entirely sure of the exact location of it on my truck. I was hoping someone would be able to give me insight as to where I might find a diagram online that would show me the location on my specific model. If I'm being ripped off I'd like to know. If I'm not I'd like to know as well. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might want to call around for prices. Unless there is substantial damage to the crankshaft rear journal that the pilot resides in, or the input shaft is damaged, the price for the repair is a tad bit high. I had a similar problem years ago on my 2500 that required a new input shaft and clutch assembly at a dodge dealer for under $2000. This is a g-56 tranny with an np271 transfer behind it.
