Question 4 wd

Yesterday my 4WD was working. I had some soft sand to negotiate. Today, I had to go through the same sand and when I went to shift into 4WD, there was nothing there. No shifting, just a loose shifter going back and forth. Feels like it's not connected to anything. Strange. I haven't heard any noises.

My truck is a 2006 Ram 2500 Diesel w/extended cab.

crawl under the truck, see if you were lucky enough to not lose the shifter rod for the TC. There are some home grown repairs that guys have done in the 3rd gen forum, you'll need to search to find them

You need to crawl underneath. You have lost your linkage.
